Your Shining Eyes - Thomas Bateson

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
A few nights' work have rendered a nice recording of this breathtakingly sweet madrigal by Thomas Bateson so typical of the Renaissance 'melancholy' style. I really tried to bring out an expressive, vocal quality in the playing and I think I have succeeded, at least in part.

At the request of several MJ-ers, I have tried to curb the noise as much as possible on this recording. I have in mind to purchase a new microphone, but until that happens, I think I have found a fairly decent work-around. I have played as close as practically possible to the microphone. Also, a noise gate was used at the front of the FX chain to cut the hiss there. The reverb effectively hides anything else. :)
Enjoy!!

How
gorgeous! Great music and a Vermeer, too. You perform this Renaissance Music better than anyone. That was a real joy to listen to. Thank you. :)

You're very kind!
I don't about "better than anyone..." I do try, though. :)
About the Vermeer: That fact it's a Dutch painting doesn't really fit with the Englishness of the madrigal, but it's SO HARD to find Renaissance ladies who actually have "shining eyes" (they all usually have such stern faces.) I was glad when I found that one.

Nice Pavane
reminiscent of the 14c Earl of Salsbury. Well preformed and orchestrated. The one problem I have with this is your not very generous with yourself. So this twill be the only time that these ears will listen to the forgotten little tune by U. Tis a shame. Allowing down loads promotes greater audiences. I should have looked before wasting my time. Much monitory success to you...........

So Lovely
It's pieces like this that I admire so much. Feels as if I am a princess in another land, dancing alongside the elves & wizards. Awesome work!

Beautiful!
Having been trained on the organ myself (after piano) I can truly appreciate the beautiful phrasing and fingering used here--this is a solid piece of work (as is the other pieces you've shared here) and I certainly did not waste my time listening to this. BRAVO!

Thanks, Michael!
I've actually been told before that my recorder playing sounds like an organ! :) But there's a difference - you just can't make an organ *sing* like you can a recorder... So with this piece, I tried to put more expression into my breath and phrasing. :)

Lone Pine
If that's you on a recorder and not the organ than you are even more astonishing! I'm glad you took that as a compliment because this was so involved I would have never guessed!

The winner on my run through the last weeks posts. I guess thanks to my weakness for the renaissance themes and your convincing performance ... Thank you!
