Lyrics
Walk back in time [written 2003]
1. walk back in time and you leave this behind,
keep going back and you’ll see.
Take one more look at the world that we shook,
You’ll find you can’t disagree.

* Walk back in time and you’ll see just what I mean.
Look at how it used to be,
Walk back in time and you’ll find that it’s changed and,
Things are not quite as free.

2. Walk back in time you can follow the line of
People both famous and not,
Things are so different it’s hard to believe,
Do we behave as we ‘ought.

* Walk back in time and you’ll know just what I mean.
Maybe were too blind to see.
Walk back in time and you’ll know that it’s changed and,
This is how it’s going to be.

Bridge – Where’d it all go wrong – where’s it going to end, can’t continue like this,
We’ve arrived at a point in time, help us from this abyss.

3. Cuba approaches and comes much too close
people expecting the worst,
Kruschov and Kennedy stand head to head,
Wondering who’ll be the first.

* Walk back in time and you’ll see just what I mean.
Look at how it used to be,
Walk back in time and you’ll find that it’s changed and,
Things are not quite as free.

4. We breathe again as the Soviets turn,
when will it all re occur,
next time we may find it out of control,
maybe no time to confer.

The drums and bass create a vibe that's almost progressive punk. The keys are soooooo Genesis. The organ and small classical nods are very Yes. Then comes the early Peter Gabriel era Genesis vocal. Am I showing my age by loving this?

thank you
I'm ashamed to say I don't know a great deal about Genisis' music, it's not too late I hope !

Age - well I wouldn't worry about it, I don't suppose I should still be playing but I am.

phew!!
Is that time signature a 2/4?
I was trying to keep count and catch up but it was making me dizzy.
Is this just you or the band in the picture?
Either way it's a really interesting..and arresting track.
Echoes of the band Cardiacs.
Really good stuff
cheers

Hi there and thanks for listening.
The time signature is mostly 5/4 except for bars 17 to 20 inclusive where it changes to 3/4.

The picture was taken in 1965 and is of my 2nd band - The Outcasts- in Cardiff. I am in the picture, that's me playing the Vox Continental.

Thank you for your kind words - I appreciate these comments very much.

Did someone say
Genesis....this is well Genesis and vocals are v Gabrielesque...great stuff,a very welcome walk back in time for me,fave and download for this definitely.

Lyrics are very poignant ,I am too young to remember the Bay of Pigs scenario butnot the other standoffs between different powers, some super, some not so super but equally dangerous
and here we are again, good job Woofer, nice one.
woofer3 said 1061 days ago (June 25th, 2010)
many thanks Jarvoid
I'm pleased that you enjoyed this little piece. I was eighteen at the time of the Bay of Pigs event and remember it very well. I remember thinking - well this is it and we're going to be right in the crossfire - what amazed me was the general complacency about it all by the British public. I don't know if people had not grasped the gravity of the situation or what. I also remember the relief when it was over.

Way to Go Woof
This is a great song, well played and well recorded. This may be your best recording to date.

I agree with the Genesis comments, especially the intro. Be that as it may, this is great and stands on its own.

I grew up on 70's prog of the genesis, Yes, Floyd vintage. There really are echoes(!) here. Thoughtful lyrics as well. Surprised I've not come across you before but will have a listen to some of your older posts now I'm here. Cheers Mark

very cool intro...great of acoustic and synth-electronica. love the time signature and the vocal delivery that you need to go with it...which you manage perfectly and incisively so that it everything is seamless. loved the bridge.
