He Was a Geek With a Guitar

Somewhere in April Luna Bleu, from over on iComp, heard one of my Country songs and asked me if I'd be interested in doing the music for a song she wrote that she called "Surprise, Surprise, Surprise". She told me that she doesn't sing or play any instruments, but thought maybe if I was willing to do the music, we could find a singer that could and would sing it. The song is about a Country girl who falls hook line and sinker for this Guitar Player and what she was thinking in the process of this flash romance. It's based on a real story related to her by someone she is acquainted with.

I told her I'd take a look at her lyrics and see what I thought about it. Well once I read the lyrics I new we had to do this song. So I took a copy of the lyrics and started building the tracks for it as I studied the lyrics for cues. As I built the tracks I could see a few places where the lyrics needed a little adjustment to get them to work in a song. I modified several lines until I had what I needed and finished up the rough draft of the music. In the process, I renamed the song "He Was a Geek With a Guitar".Luna Bleu approved of lyric and title changes I made to the song. This was in the latter part of April.

I already had Vicki Smith, "Vixen" on iComp in mind to do the vocals because I've heard the woman sing a song that had attitude, and she kicked butt when she did. So I contacted Vicki to see if she was interested, Turns out Luna Bleu had already contacted her and she was definitely interested. So I sent her the Back Tracks I'd made and once she listened she said a really big yes let's do it. The only problem was she was going on holiday and wouldn't be able to do it till she came back, a month or so later.
Fast forward to the end of June, when Vicki could get the vocals done and now they are, and so is the song.

It's a raucous Country Honky-Tonk song with attitude. Luna Bleu, Vicki Smith "Vixen', and I hope you enjoy this tale of a woman in lust, err err Love.

Verse

I fell in love with the man behind a black guitar
He sang just like an angel. hell, I thought I'd found me a star
When first that man I saw, tight jeaned, long and tall...
I admit it. I was drunk. But that tree had a hell of a trunk
This country gal fell hard and fast, lust just took my mind
Tryin' so hard to tell, what that guitar just might hide
How could I have known, what it hid so well.
The truth was bound to show itself, time will always tell.....

Chorus

He was a geek with a guitar, a Leonard Nimoy fan
A Star Trek lovin, Star Wars watchin', guitar strummin' man
Sister, let me tell ya all you've heard about nerds is real
with those guitar pickin' fingers, that man . . . . . . . can make me squeal Ooww

Verse 2

At first I couldn't see, what was right in front of me.
Stars had shut my eyes, and opened wide my thighs
Once that guitar was removed, that rock-n-roller found the groove
of my female wiles so sweet and deep, he swept me off my feet
I've got only one thing left to say..
You girls a lookin' best be mindin' your ways.
That man you're a checkin out.. That there is MY geek.
Best that you be knowin' I've got a jealous streak. You hear me ?

Chorus

For the geek with the guitar My Leonard Nimoy fan
My Star Trek lovin, Star Wars watchin' Sexy guitar man.
I don't have to tell you all you've heard of nerds is true.
Just like a guitar player should he sure can turn some screws
Ahhh, On the top of the guitar Ya know, those little tuney thingys...

Spoken

Hey, girly, shakin' up there infront of that stage
You know who I'm talkin' to. You best watch yourself..
cause I sure am watchin' you!!!!!!!
Yes, you Twirlin' there , titties fallen' out of your tank top
those over the shoulder bolder holder they taken.
Your gonna give yourself a balk eye, or I sure will

Chorus

He's a geek with a guitar, a Leonard Nimoy fan.
A Star Trek lovin, Star Wars watchin', Guitar strummin' man
Lordy, let me tell you all you've heard about nerds is real.
With those guitar pickin' fingers
That man . . can make me squeal!!! Ahhh

Tag lines

Lordy, let me tell you all you've heard of nerds is real.
With those guitar pickin' fingers That man . . . huhuh . . .
yeah he's my man sugar . . . . . He sure can make me squeal!!!

Ab-Libbed
you best be batten' those eyelashes somewhere else . .
While you still got em

Wait! I thought guitar players were cool? We're really nerds? Ouch.

Well that's it! My Star Wars figurines are off to the Good Will today.

I love the tune and lyrics. Great backing track. Love the country feel with the British vocal. This is a big winner.

Thank Rich
The girls did the hard work, I was just the guy in the band that got noticed.

Luna's lyrics were killer so I decided early on this needed to have that raunchy Honky-Tonk feel to it. "Vixen", Vicky Smith, delivered in spades on the attitude needed for the vocals, so the song turned out to be just what I'd hoped for it when I first read the lyrics, a high octane Honky-Tonk romp through the life of a woman and her Geek.

Thanks for listening Rich and for the kind words. Glad you like how it all came out.

Be well and be cool,

Ed

Who'da thunk it..
The way to get the chicks is to wear my Starfleet uniform while playing guitar. I always thought that would do just the opposite...

What a fun, cool tune all the way around. I really got a kick out of it. Thanks for sharing!

Don't ya just love it,
when a song can put that big old Sh-t eating grin on yer face ? I know I do !

Working on this was as much fun as I've had in a long time. Luna and Vicki made this an easy ride for me because they are both easy to get along with, but mostly because they are both tremendous talents in their own right. It's not hard to do good work when you're working with Pro's.

Thanks for listening Mike, glad you enjoyed the song, and appreciate the kind words you left for us.

Luna's lyrics and Vicki's vocal make the song. The band could have been any half way good Country band that can play the music. The main thing is we decided early on to have a little fun with it, and let Vicki throw out all the attitude she wanted to in the vocals. Needless to say, S\she delivered in spades.

Thanks again for the kind words and for listening Dave.

Glad you enjoyed this little ditty. We had a blast putting this one together, but it was hard to have to wait for Vicki to get back from holiday. I was really anxious to get this one done, and I knew that when Vicki was able to deliver the vocal it was gonna be a killer track, and as it turned out, I was right. Man that girl can sing with attitude.

Thanks again for listening and the kind words Ed, it is appreciated.

What can I say, Micheal
The girl's got Attitude. Vicki is a great singer and knows how to lay down some attitude in a song, as you can tell. When I read Luna Bleu's lyrics, Vicki was my first choice for the vocal. As it turned out, she was also Luna Bleu's first choice, and after reading the lyrics and hearing the back track I'd put together, she was hot to do this one.

Glad you like the song Micheal. Thanks for listening and the kind words, we all appreciate that.
