Abby's Gotta Dance - w/ Davisamerica-2

Description
Terry, (Davisamerica-2) posted this song as an Open Collaboration, so I thought I'd see if I could add some things to it and possibly not take any of the charm of his original post away.

On my version, I played a Bass line for it, and some Lead guitar fills. Then I supplemented the drums that were there with another drum track, added some drum fills and cymbals, and a rhythm guitar section to compliment what Terry had done on the original.

I'm not sure it's a better song for the things I added, but it is different.

I hope you enjoy this little Collab between Terry and I. Thanks for posting this great little song as a collab Terry, it was fun playing in your Musical Sandbox for a while.

Terry's original can be found at http://www.macjams.com/song/61839

I highly recommend listening to the original track that Terry posted, it's a great song.

Abby's Gotta Dance

B E
I know a little girl, and her name is Abby
B A E
She can’t sit still. It just makes her crabby
B E B A E
She’s gotta dance
B E
She can kick so high. She can almost fly
B A E
Like a little bird, she takes to the sky
B E B A E
She’s gotta dance

CHORUS:
B E
Yes, Abby’s gotta dance, Abby’s gotta dance
B A E
With every little step there’s a smile on her face
B E B A E
Abby’s gotta dance
B E
Yes, Abby’s gotta dance, Abby’s gotta dance
B A E
With every little move there’s a glimmer in her eye
B E B A E
Abby’s gotta dance
F#
She’ll be gone all night, but her mama don’t care
D A
There ain’t no question, who, what, or where
B A E B A E
She gotta dance
END CHORUS

B E
Well at twenty-third and Penn she’s a at it again
B A E
There’s a guitar pickin’, and it’s her best friend
B E B A E
She’s gotta dance
B E
If there’s no room on the floor, well they can just hit the door
B A E
Cause there ain’t no stoppin’ Abby when she’s ready for more
B E B A E
She’s gotta dance

CHORUS

B E
I keep the car on the road and the music down low

B A E
But when Abby gets in, well it’s a story told
B E B A E
She’s gotta dance
B E
With all the rockin’ and groovin’, and she can’t stop movin’
B A E B E B E
I try to slow it down, she’s says “Nothin’ doin’. I gotta dance!”

CHORUS

Abby's Gotta Dance
It was already a very good song. But now it has a stronger arrangement. Good one!

What I wanted was to add, without taking anything away from Terry's awesome song. I think I got there, but I'm waiting to see how it goes. So far, so good, eh ?

Thanks for listening my friend, and the kind words.

Be well and be cool, see you next week I hope.

Beauty, Ed
This rocks. A very respectful re-mix: Terry's original is not lost at all, and yet you've added real depth. And all the little fills are perfect. Very nice.

Well,
I don't know about perfect, but the fills are definitely fills. Nice thing to say Rich but know where the mistakes are, and it ain't perfect I assure you. But close enough for Rock-n- Roll.

Thanks for listening my friend.

Be well and be cool,

Ed

You've got a great ear and a deft touch Ed. I liked the original, but I think this version is stronger!

Thank Dave
Not too bad an ear for a deaf guy anyway. Terry's original was so good it would be hard to mess it up unless you completely covered it so no one could here it. This just drives it a little harder and lets the good that was there shine through. At least I hope it does. Besides, sometimes a little bit goes a long way if you use the right little bits.

Thanks again for listening Dave and the kind words about it.

Be well and be cool,

didn't want to take anything away from what Terry did, so I tried to be careful to let the song shine through all the additions. It was such a great song to begin with that it deserved the kid glove treatment.

Thanks for checking it out Jack, and for the kind words on it. I just hope Terry is pleased with where I took his song.

Be well and be cool my friend, looking forward to seeing all of you on Friday next.

Thanks Dani
Right away, when I heard Terry's song, I thought it needed a Bass. Well, being the kind of guy that can't leave well enough alone, after I did the Bass line I thought about the rest of the rhythm section. With that strong Bass, the Drums needed a little boost to keep up, Of course one thing led to another and pretty soon, I'd added a rhythm Guitar and then a lead Guitar as a counterpoint to Terry's vocals. And there ya go, Terry's song on Steroids, but hopefully without killing the great tracks that Terry had so generously donated to the cause.

Glad you like where we went on this one Dani. As I said in the intro, it was a lot of fun playing in Terry's sandbox.

Thanks for listening and the kind words, it is appreciated.

Ed

Great Ed!
It's a brand new song to me. I almost forgot I couldn't dance, and felt myself getting up out of my chair. This is the kind of "guitar pickin' that Abby befriended." Thanks Ed. Terry

This is such a great song I was afraid I'd mess it up. I gotta say, it was brave of you to put this out there as an O.C.. You never know who's gonna jump on it or where they'll go when they do.

I tried not to screw it up too bad cause it is a great song as you posted it. But it was fun building on your work here. I'm just glad I didn't mess up too bad on it.

Thanks again for the O.C. and for checking out what I did to it. Glad you enjoyed it, even if you can't dance.

Abby's Gotta Dance
Having not heard the original, I can't say what a great addition to an already cool song. I CAN say what a COOL song, and an EXCELLENT collab. This tune really grooves well, especially through the chorus's. I totally enjoyed rockin out to it - thanks for sharing your work with us!

Thank you Sigmund
The original was sparse with just a rhythm guitar, drums, and Terry's vocals. But it was good just like that. It really didn't need anything to be a good song.

But since Terry posted it as an Open Collab, I thought I'd just add a Bass line to it. Well you can see how that worked out, After adding Bass, I added Drums, a Rhythm guitar, and a Lead Guitar part. So much for using the K.I.S.S. principle, huh ?

Glad you enjoyed the song as it is now. Thanks again for listening and for the kind words Sigmund.

Be well and be cool,

Ed
