Description
This is my first song done fully in Logic (LE9) with orchestration using the Miroslav Philharmonik software, (as well as a few JP instruments that I still prefer over the Miroslav counterparts, or that Miroslav just doesn't have). Miroslav actually WORKS in Logic - I only crashed my computer a handfull of times, instead of a handful of times every 5 minutes, as was happening with "Confluence" when I tried to use Miroslav in GB. The piano is played in Ivory, using the "German Expressive Concert D" for those interested in that detail.
I think I'm over the worst of the learning curve for Logic, thanks mainly to lots of technical support and hand holding from Shay (kassia), who stuck by me through bouts of whining, weeping, teeth gnashing, ranting, raving, catatonia, anxiety episodes and a couple of psychotic breaks. I still prefer the ease and intuitiveness of GB, but at least I'm at the point of being able to appreciate a few of Logic's more useful (to me) features, such as being able to have multiple instruments open in the piano roll at the same time. I have to admit, that really made it easier to work out harmonies between instruments. (Did I say that?)
Thank you also to Shay for the always spot-on, thoughtful and unwavering critical feedback as this piece developed. And to Jack (davisamerica) for the finish line help when I got hopelessly stuck in OCTD (obsessive-compulsive tweak disorder) and Tracy (tracyvosh) for the extra set of ears as I made decisions about specific junctures in the song.
This ditty got its title this past weekend during a little motorcycle trip over the long 4th of July holiday. I was in an unforecast windstorm on Sunday, being blown from one county to the next, on the edge of disaster, and somehow managed to have a fun anyway. I realized that is more or less how I felt as I, on the one hand, struggled with Logic, lurching from one challenge beyond my puny technical skill set to the next, while on the other hand totally loving the process of composing the music, in spite of the frustrations with Logic. Thinking of the concept of "irrational exuberance" made me remember this photo of me and the good Trooper Blood (his actual name!) taken just about exactly a year ago in eastern WA. He had just ticketed me for speeding on the first day of a week long bike trip, and then graciously agreed to smile for the camera. The guy had a great sense of humor, and somehow the whole experience only heightened the gleeful vacation spirit. Speeding tickets, Logic, wind storms - it's irrational to have this much fun! Hope you enjoy this little ditty!

And well worth the wait! Awesome way to calm me down here at work taking test after test on the computer! Really very beautiful comosition and the thing that stands out the most to me Karen is that you have your own distinctive trademark style that you've developed, very impressive!
