Another mix of this song with the vocal more out front is available here
This process of online collaboration just amazes me. Just a few hours ago I came home from being out at the movies with my wife. There was a message in my email alerting me of a pending DropBox invitation. I was like a kid at Christmas. And I’m so excited to now share the gift that was inside.
I wrote this instrumental bed track a few months ago. It was built around the acoustic slide part. Since the instrumental track is clearly a blues I wanted an appropriate bluesy lyric. I also knew I wanted a female vocal on the track. I started to jot down some ideas simply so a vocalist would have a rough idea what I had in mind. I was looking for the female response to many of the most commonly known blues lyrics. Because let’s face it. All of these songs about good men being done wrong by their woman don’t really reflect reality. Bill Clinton, Elliot Spitzer, David Vitter, Tiger Woods, and Jessie James to name just a few of the more prominent offenders. When it comes to giving the opposite sex the blues, men give way more than they get. So I went through my blues CDs, picked out some of the most famous lines, then wrote a female response.
I asked RAVENS to listen to the song and consider doing the vocal. I told her she was free to sing any lyric and melody she wanted. I can’t remember ever receiving a more gratifying compliment as a musician then when I opened that DropBox tonight and heard her sing my lyrics. And what an amazing vocal she contributed! She captured exactly what I envisioned for the song and more! There is no way I can thank her enough for working with me.

Lyrics
No Telling What I Might Do
Verse 1
You tell me that the thrill is gone, but it’s about to start
You should have thought twice before you broke my heart
A kind-hearted woman I was, but not no more
Sleep with one opened down there on my killin’ floor
You tell me that our love’s in vain but I got some news for you
You should’ve put her down, now there’s no telling what I might do
Verse 2
You say your built for comfort, but you best go find some speed
You’ll need much more than seven doctors, so you best take heed!
You best keep moving, you’ve a hellhound on your trail!
I have a funny feeling your death letters’ in the mail
You tell me that our love’s in vain but I got some news for you
You should’ve put her down, now there’s no telling what I might do
Verse 3
If you wake up in the morning I suggest you dust your broom
You have no possession over judgment day that looms
You claimed to be boss, well I’ve got a hot news flash
This time you’ll pay the cost with a lot more than cash
You tell me that our love’s in vain but I got some news for you
You should’ve put her down, now there’s no telling what I might do

RAVENS
I really was honored that you asked me to sing your song. Sorry it took so long, I study the art of procrastination.
It was really nice to only have to sing and mix, you did all the work! Again, thank you so much, it was my pleasure collabing with you.
RAVEN ;-)
