Actually, this is one I did a LONG time ago so the mix is a little different (to be honest, in retrospect, I'm not to pleased with it, but it's serviceable I guess!). Incidentally, Farina may not bark often in my junk, but a LOT of times if you listen carefully, you might hear him rattling his dog tags (something about that frequency they produce penetrates right into the track too--I'm sure he's fully aware of that too!) I’ll be off to Wal*Mart now to purchase the three pieces of hardware that are clearly the secret ingredients to creating that magical MJK sound, an egg slicer, some fly paper, and some Nasonex. Listening to this now, some two years later, I can tell I SHOULD have had that Nasonex handy (my sinus troubles are legendary around here so won't bore you with the details!), but I remember the feeling inside of me when I sang this one and it felt good. Andrew, another secret ingredient not mentioned above is the monkey gland injections, but at $50,000 a pop every week, I don't want to rub that in too much for some folks in the lower wage brackets. Actually Jolson had a lot of projection in his voice so never needed a megaphone (nor a mic, even when that became the standard)--you might be thinking of Rudy Vallee (whom I somehow or another managed to see in person before he died--my dad remembered seeing Al Jolson perform when he was kid, however). This is such a happy, upbeat kind of song--the kind I enjoy singing the most, so very pleased that you liked it as well--and thanks for your very nice remarks on it too. Take care now! Michael

Well, yanno, I studied piano for a very long time and I think that has helped me with placement when singing (even when playing, I "hear" what I'm going to play next just seconds before--even as a kid, I had a very good ear and could pick out jingles from commercials and TV show themes on the little toy piano my parents first bought me). You know, some of these lesser known Jolson songs like this one are ripe for rediscovery--everybody knows the usual Jolson standards, but he did quite a few excellent songs that are not as well remembered today. I honestly got distracted by ADD while listening to this and forgot it was you and then when I snapped back into reality I was like who the heck is this crooner? Oh it's Michael, I honestly can't tell the difference between you and the greats, you're one of them in my book!
