Description:
this one's inspired by t.s. eliot poem called the lovesong of j alfred prufrock. one of my favorites.

Lyrics:
at the bottom of some poetry/a newfound thought occurred to me/would the mermaids kindly sing/if i was dying?//and would i dare to eat a peach/and sexualize the meaning/of fruits and words and phrases/worth admiring?//i was fed in 1982/through a mangled blue umbilical/like a teller window's vaccuum tube/i was wired/i emerged just like a ringing bell/from that fiery amniotic hell/and i sucked the air down so damn well/i became tired///chorus: i went to sleep/i had a dream///i awoke and i was 23/and with perspective newly behind me/i tried to talking some sense into/my neighbors/but they cursed my logic up and down/and retreated to the church in town/in my mind i saw a monkey/grading papers///chorus: or was that me?/in 8 million BC///it's hard to swim the waterways/with ankle-weights made of cliches/but behind every single dark cloud's face is/a silver lining/that on a ring's as good as gold/or so the ancient story goes/where midas turns what he touches /into diamonds///chorus:i earned a C/in mythology///Forgive me now Im on the beach/an electric golf cart's chasing me/it must've mistaken all this scenery/for a sand trap/It runs me down im almost dead/and as the last drip of adrenaline/kicks in a mermaid surfaces /and she begins to sing a mortal hymn, it goes///you deserve to die like all good men do (repeat 4x)

The guitar seems out of tune to me...you're also getting
alot of line noise in your mix, try adjusting down your
gain or putting a de-esser on the problem track. I liked
the vocals in theis piece, they reminded me of being in
college, of the people I used to know and the things we
used to think and talk about. A little more mastering is
required and a little more fleshing out is needed for this
peice.

thanks for the comment. i dont think i've ever been capable of producing a
"clean" sounding track, but this is probably as close as ive come. i definitely
plan on cleaning it up though. i noticed i can hear myself typing in one part.
it's interesting that the lyrics remind you of college discussions. i am in
college now (grad school). maybe that's why.

when I was in college. I was writing songs with titles like
"Tadpoles on my Mind." In fact, I may post that song...

Your piece seems personal, heartfelt, sort of obscure in a
likeable way. I can't really criticize the noise, because my
songs are a technical mess, too.

But, I can advise you to tune that Ibanez. There is nothing
to be gained by having an out-of-tune guitar.

Interesting vocal.

the tuning thing is so frustrating to me. i was POSITIVE that my guitar was in
tune when i recorded this yesterday. i have this program called Perfect Pitch,
and you play each string into the microphone and its meter tells you when
the note is correct.
i just dont have an ear for it yet.
thanks for the comment. maybe ill have someone who knows guitar tune it
for me, and i can re-record the guitar track.

Excellent poetic lyrics &mdash 01/12/05 - 01:56:05 PM
I love these lyrics. Whimsy to the edge of profound. Such wonderful nightmare images: ankle weights of cliches; chased by a golf cart. The Mad Mad World meets Dylan Thomas on open mic night. Can't wait til you can tune up and finish this work. Tons of ideas to mine hear with equally inventive sounds...

i just purchased an electronic tuner for the guitar, and i've begun working on
"cleaning" this one up. thanks for the kind words. it means a lot.
