Description
This literally fell together for us. Rik was absolutely buried in work and could only manage to poke his head out periodically. I had this smokey blusey kinda guitar line I had been batting around for a couple weeks and I thought it might work. I sent it off to Rik and he immediately jumped on board with it. We both liked the idea that it was probably different from what most would have in mind for this challenge. It sounded like it could work kinda like a Robbie Robertson tune. Rik took it and listened to it for a few days and when he had time dug out a poem he had written earlier that he thought might work. Boy Oh Boy did it ever. I cleaned up the bed tracks leaving just bass and drums and suggested what might work timing wise. He had it for a few more days, and then a few more days, and then a few more days... frankly I was a little worried he was trying too hard to please me and honor all my ideas for the song. I was right... he sent me vocal and synth and organ tracks that completely tied the song together. He even added a vocal bridge to connect the two picturesque verses he wrote. This man is a very talented individual. On top of it all he's working like 60 hours a week. I cut and pasted all the synths and organ lines to the original bed track which I had made almost five minutes long and Riks tracks made it a very listenable five minutes. Once I had that done I just plugged in my guitar and recorded about 100 takes. The guitar line you hear is a combination of some of those takes. Rik made this song so inspiring I still play along to a track that has no guitar in it just to play it live. It is just so much fun to play. Enjoy!!

Bluesy Groove!
Jeeez, that Guy can ***play***, can't he???? I'm listening to that tasty guitar for about the hundredth time in a week and it still sounds just as fresh as the first moment I heard it. And Guy was a pleasure to work with - we fell into a groove so quickly, it's like we'd worked together for years. There will be more from this team in the future, I'm sure.

i like the bluesy hypnotic vibe. a classic road song. Thinking probabalistically, you're not going to be sitting beside the woman of your dreams though... more likely a guy who wants to share conspiracy theories, who hasn't had a shower in a while... :)

the guitar tone and note choices are right on. everyone sings the praises of spontaneity but I do like what happens when you play something 100 times and hone it to something really cool.
good job guys.

Thats just it...
Each on of those takes was an off the cuff whatever happens happens type take... so they were all to some degree spontaneous lol. Thanks Relic I really had fun with this one.

Conspiracy Guy
I knew that guy! I called him 'UFO Bill'... fortunately he showered regularly!

Guy's guitar tone is absolutely spot on. Incredible how the two of us, with no more than a few emails back and forth, seemed to know exactly what the song needed and would accent the other contributor's work. Having heard several versions of Guy's guitar runs, it's amazing to hear the precision swinging around with the spontaneity as he plays with this, pokes that, and each time I think, ooohhhh, that's it, he's nailed it. And then I'll hear the next version, and there's subtle little changes that just come alive.

Great guy. Great talent. It was a pleasure to cook this up with him.

Great road tune, huh Karen? I've been listening to it in the truck all week long, and it was hot, steamy and humid in the cab! (O wait, the A/C wasn't working.... (laugh)

Truly though, Guy gave this tune its heart and soul. What a ride to work with the guy!

Grit and Polish
This tune turned out to be a wonderful balance of contrasts. Smooth, shimmering keys with bluesy, earthy guitar licks. Hot, humid atmosphere with a cool breeze wafting through an open window.

Credit goes to Guy for much of that magic - when I heard his initial rhythm track, it painted rich, vivid pictures that immediately suggested that particular organ and light synth approach. As well, the spoken approach was his suggestion - again, spot on. What a pleasure it was to be teamed with him.

Style and Power
It still amazes me that we cooked up this tune that sounds like we're old friends who've played together for years, when we're really new friends who were put together at random! I'm just now beginning to disengage from the 'creator' aspect of the song and beginning to hear it as a 'listener' with everyone else... and I'm thinking "I helped cook up something THAT cool? When did THAT happen?"

I can't wait to see what else we might cook up together in the future.

Chrome Side Bus
I suspect the song works equally well in a Greyhound. I travelled to Iowa from Vermont a few years ago... what a weird journey that was. No wonderfully lost women in out-of-style jeans, but there was a driver who would shout out Biblical verses periodically along the Cleveland-Chicago leg. And security guards in Cleveland who felt they had to be extra hardass because they were bus station security guards.

Glad I did it. Would never do it again.

A beauty
This is great stuff! Gritty on the inside, all purty on the outside. Every element from the guitars (which are REALLY fine) to the vocal/lyrics has a slight unexpected quality which pushes the whole package up several notches.
Full marks go to Rik for playing that vocal straight all the way through, and to Guy for those licks that sound 100% fresh.

chromey bus
the perfect north american rock track. perfect production....it's superb on headphones (and i'm no rock digger) rik knows how to imbue his vocal delivery with total conviction.

Traffic jam
I commented on this earlier, I swear... but must've clicked away too soon. Glad I stopped back to listen again. Now if I could only remember what I said the first time. Oh yeah: Great tune, Guy(s)! Those vocal fx are otherworldly. Robbie Robertson? Well, I kind of feel like it's more of a fantasy-laced Traffic jam.

da blues
GREAT guitar effect, man. Big ol' sound in the production. Opening vocs made me think of Zappa at first for some reason--but it ended there. Good bluesy jam.

Wow! This one grabs you and just won't let go. This music is top notch. Great groove, great guitar work. Love this poem, and the voice delivers it perfectly. I'll be playing this one quite a bit in the future. Thanks for the D/L. Terry

greasy spoon
i worked in a greasy spoon with 3 blondes who all had spots cos they'd worked there too long.It was on the outskirts of a derelict part of the uk known as birmingham, and last year some guy with a metal detector found a hoard of saxon treasure near that cafe worth millions.how many times did I eat a burger out the back and look at that field. All the truckers came in and it was a regular place for them to exchange money for cocaine. The language in there used to make my ears go red.Great song - brings it all back for me! Nice Mix
The drums are fantastic... the guitar groove is definitely done by a Guy with some great chops. Nice vox... like the reverb effect. Fine collab... Enjoyed.

Groovy!
Greta guitar work, a lovely big snare and a cool little 3/4 groove. Riks vocals are up front and kinda menacing, and he weaves a seductive little tale. Loved this!

Coolness in the heat
Super-evocative song brings vivid summer imagery to me, even though I'm in the middle of winter. It's easy to see that you've put a lot of effort and concentration into the tones all the way 'round. The drums sound nice and appropriately big. The combination of effects on the vocals are spot on (though I could have done without the pitch correction).

There are a couple of spots where the guitars seemed to want to push the looped drums forward a bit more (which would seem to indicate that you might have wanted a faster tempo), but most of the time you settle right in. I'm glad it wasn't any faster as the tempo captured the feel of the lyric. I wish you had more fills at your disposal, but I know how it can be when you're working with a third-party set of loops - usually not much to choose from.

Thanks for sharing this one!
