Description
Deep in the forest, the spirits dance. Can we escape the trance and merely watch if our very soul longs to join the rite?

Intro
Ah nature..... Very enchanting piece.
The music conjures up so many images.
Love the gentle start and it's morph with the beats and effects later on. Subtle but excellently done.
Very cool

So so Cool
This is dripping with drippiness. I'm dumbfounded at how one composes a piece like this. It wanders and explores yet has purpose and direction. The production and attention to detail is superb. David Arkenstone and the like got nothing on you guys. Enchanting. Thanks for the journey.

Tops
My son and I were listening to some MJ work, saw your post go up. I said to him, "This should be good," and we were not disappointed. In fact, we were knocked out by this. This is really a beautiful and powerful piece of music. Congratulations to both of you.

Summer's cauldron
VERY sweet interweaving of acoustic and electro elements into an organic whole. Appropriately big sonic spectrum for all that summer heat. (The next song on the album needs to burst in and blast the reverie to smithereens!)
I'd like to know a little more about this one, myself. Do tell.

Not much to tell
We decided on the basic scheme of me fluting and Graham filling in; he started with electronic basic tracks, I sent him a ton of flute improvs on different instruments; he fit them together, inserting that violin solo and such, I had some comments, he asked for another part (the higher one at the end), final mix, and that's that....

No wait. Graham and I agreed to climb to the roofs on our respective houses at midnight of the first full moon after the challenge was issued. Sitting in lotus position and chanting "oooommmmmm" synchronisedly, we melded our minds and invoked the great ancestor spirits who let us share, in a vision, in the midsummer dance. The next morning, we independently recorded parts, which miraculously turned out to be in the same key and bpm. However, we could feel that something was missing: we were not hitting transcendance yet. So Graham promised to offer his first born to the elders of Po-Mo-Na if they would bless this track. As we speak, he is driving his son to spend the next 4 years at a secret fraternity that will hide him from the world, teach him the mystic arts of Al-Dja-Bra and Soc101, and probably subject him to a hazing. This miraculously lifted the cloud from our efforts and we saw the golden road to mixdown.

And that's how this track came about.

Yeah, I KNEW it wasn't as simple as just trading tracks.....!

Everything here is so thoughtfully and seamlessly melded, I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear you had recorded everything in a few hours and then spent the last month tweaking everything. Just listened again; this is an impressive contribution.

When the spirits dance
the soul can not resist joining in. Love the Flute Victor, and the rest just draws me in and my soul is enchanted. Beautifully done, a piece you can both be very proud of.

I wasn't signed in
on the first listening, so I got to listen again. I'm always intrigued by your mix of sounds from so many cultures and so much of nature. You always make it cohesive. It is like following a winding path through a forest. There is always the promise of a new revelation around the next curve. I like the changes introduced around 5:25. Subtle, and in the background, but they really change the feel. Then back to a more legato style, but with the strings. It all works so well together. This had to be lots of work, but definitely a labor of love.
Beautiful.

"my mix"
This track is similar to stuff I've done before, but in this case all the backing is Graham's work. And frankly, I'm rather impressed with what he's done here. He has great sounds and really knows how to use them. So at least half your compliments are for him.

WOW
that WAS deep in the forest.
the flute enchants - such a powerful voice!
the swells and sustains work their magic to create a lush mood.
excellent touches of percussion - like it when it settles in.
beautiful change at 2:38 - the strings open up like flowers in the sun.
don't know who is doing what, but the choices you guys made work wonderfully for this listener. Big Song - thank you.

carry me
once in a while i wonder what it might be like to be a dragonfly... to flitter clickingly through the bushes and trees surrounding my home waters... to linger in the warm sunlight, and then to rest upon a blade in the cool shadows cast by things so tall and so old as to be miraculous in their splendor - never fully understanding the wonder of my being

carried away by the wind, i drift high above the forest where i can take in the vastness of it all

by chance, and chance alone, the winds carry me back to my home waters, and i am again the way should be - as all living things should be -

as i am

You playing is spot on. Love the string addition at 2:45. The placement was perfect.

4:09 sealed the deal for me.

Wow!
I'm at the wigwam at Po-Mo-Na preparing the ritual goat and just wanted to say thanks for all the wonderful comments. It was great working with Vic. I wasn't really sure how to work with a collab so I just sent him an ambient bed based around d-minor since he said his new flute was centered in that key.

While Vic was recording his outstanding improvs I fleshed out the overall arch and concept of the piece and started orchestrating. It was great having these incredible solos to work around...so we went back and forth a couple of times and then added in two final impovs, which we were able to slice and dice to fit the two big crescendos.

I also piled on the tracks using Absynth, Rapture, Omnisphere, EWQL-SO, Stormdrum, and a stacked arpeggio using Albino, Xils3 and ImpOSCar and some native percussion samples in Ultrabeat. Lots of tweaking of dynamics and automation and voila. Anyway, it was a lot of fun. So all...I am really happy that everyone liked it so much...I wasn't sure about taking a "mythological" approach to summer. Thanks all for the careful listens. This is a great group of musicians to be with.

splendid, as the veil of mist peels bacchus to reveal...
Your initial description made me start remembering my own "Black Forest Dance" description, but then I pushed play, and was blown away... this is really delicate, powerful, primal, and beautifully played and enhanced with ancient nature and the modern omni sphere of wizardry. I too am offering up my own daughter "Addison" to the Aztec CalGods of "Este Essue"' this Friday, must be something big coming...

Anyway, a grand and deeply engaging piece and performance, bravo!
