Summer Sizzle T4S / Andy
When we first got linked together in Smokey's crazy Youtube code -whatever, I was like, ALLRIGHT! Anne of SISTERS and I had already done a few collaborations so there was no anxiety whatsoever about entering into the challenge with her. Simultaneously we sent emails to each other saying basically, ‘hey? Wanna make some music? I said sure but really didn’t have anything. (This was my evil plan all along)She said, hold on, let me shoot ya somethin’. A guitar loop and these hot sultry lyrics that is point and counterpoint of Anne’s work came in the email a couple of hours later. After establishing the rhythm and timing I set out to add in bass, sax, mandolin and vocals. Now the mando was tough and I ended up re-tuning it to make the repeated chord sound less fretty. (new word) Added two tracks of that. The next challenge was to extract vocals from me… I kept hearing this impossible bluegrass style male harmony thing but it just came out as a squawk. So I got away from the project for a while and then asked Maureen what I should do. I Followed her advice and kept it simple and stopped trying so hard. I keep learning that lesson.
We had decided early on that we would only ask one question per email so that nothing got overlooked. This resulted in over 50 emails in each other’s inboxes. Daugrin was in town last weekend and before he left, I asked him if he would take a listen. He immediately identified some areas of the file that needed work, assisted me for about an hour and went on his way. Thanks Daug!
There were a few days of 105 degrees heat and believe me, mixing tracks on this song offered no relief... Which is good, because the tune is hot.

When the pairs were revealed, I thought - WHEW! I know I can count on Andy for some great music. I sent a couple of ideas in the form of Logic Loops, he nibbled on one, and awaaaaaaay we galloped much sooner than I thought we might.
I've never quite had a song happen like this one. I thought the one sparse guitar loop was the epitome of one helluva sun beating down relentlessly. I immediately squawked out a spontaneous vocal to capture the idea, and sent all to Andy. He sent me back his initial idea, and it was then that I proceeded to boss the poor man about relentlessly. "Do this there." "Take that out there." "Leave that part but try this part like this..." "That note is bugging me." I don't recall ever having such definite ideas about a new song - and thankfully I didn't have to arm wrestle Andy (tho we talked about it..:) - he graciously tried everything I wanted, as well as coming up with the musical heat in a beautiful less-is-more delivery. Hs idea of the droning vocal harmony was just perfect. I couldn't be happier that I was partnered with such a talent whose music wants hearing instead of an ego.
Special thanks to Maureen and Daugrin for their assistance. Also to Bud for sponsoring the Two 4 Summer Challenge. Special thanks to Smokey for his Youtube Code-whatever... and all the early brainstorming clabbers that helped get this challenge off the ground!

Lyrics
I woke up this morning- soaked in sweat
I didn't know how hot I could get.
Outside the window; trees ready to flame
Weatherman says, 'tomorrow's the same."
I am scorching
my fire is true...
I am blazing
blazing for you...
I am melting
and turned to goo...
I am burning... burning for you
Temperature's soaring
I cannot breathe.
My flame burns white- I am the Heat.
Everything's shutdown,
They've cancelled the game
Thru the inferno you call my name.
I am scorching
my fire is true...
I am blazing
blazing for you...
I am melting
and turned to goo...
I am burning... burning for you
So
Hot
...

Central Asia meets the Appalachian Mountains. Great atmosphere. Love the mandolin. And anything with Anne's voice is a sure winner
