Notes From Andrew
This was my first-ever random pairs challenge. I was fortunate to be paired with Stephen. It was clear from his previous posts that we had a lot of common musical ground to build off of, which made for a fun and easy collaboration.
The basic instrumental track we used was something I put together two years ago when I first started toying with GarageBand. Back then my only goal was to combine a groove and some changes to jam over. I sent it to Stephen to see if he thought it had potential. He liked it and began writing lyrics and melodies for it, turning my jam-track into an actual song.
I asked paddler to contribute piano and organ to the project. Not only did he come through, he did so twice. After sending me tracks in B minor, he agreed to redo them when Stephen and I agreed G minor was better suited for the melody and vocal.
Many thanks to Stephen. By stepping up to write the lyrics and melodies, as well as singing all the vocal parts, he did the heavy lifting. He also handled the mastering. Great work brother!
Stephen: lead vocals, background vocals, & mastering
Andrew: Guitars, bass, drum programming, & mixing
Rich: Electric piano & organ
Notes from Stephen: I was really pushed vocally in working with Andrew. I knew his ear and impeccable production sense would discern what I would let slip. I wasn't prepared for his disarming and easygoing charm when we spoke on the phone. His initial idea excited me, but when I heard the track, I admit I was a bit disappointed as I think I was thinking beach music. However, I soon caught on and I think we have a summer hit. I think Andrew really blew me away when he submitted his guitar lead for this song. I just shows the effortless ease of his tasteful style, truly professional. I really enjoyed working with Andrew and Richard for what is really my first actual back and forth collaboration. I am excited to work with Andrew again.

Lyrics
In Your Eye
(c) 2010 Andrew Lack & Stephen Schedra
I am not in danger from the cool cool ocean breeze
And what I find in sunshine, by moonlight is a gentle tease
But over in the islands by the warm Caribbean sea
A she witch has been brewing 'bout how she's' gonna get thru to me
They tell me she's hot blooded its all one can expect
For a woman of the islands she will suffer no neglect
Mistrust has been her anchor, distance is her friend
And when she finds me home I 'm sure its gonna be my end
In your eye there is a peace that says "forget about tomorrow"
But with you what comes before is just a sign of what's to follow
Red sky in the morning is a sure sign of distress
This mother has no nature that will tenderly caress
She's always coming early or staying much too late
And you're left counting fingers,
And wondering why she lingers,
And pulling out the stingers from the bones upon her plate

This is flat out HUGE! Brilliance all the way through. Great vocals (BV's are ACE!), perfect guitars and keys.
Take some big bows, gents!
