Smokey's Bell in Another Valley

Description
Yet another iteration of SmokeyVW's lovely holiday tune, A Bell in the Valley. I heard it recently and, since my composing muse seems to have gone on holiday, I thought my arranging muse might enjoy a little workout. So I changed the instrumentation, along with a few notes, and played with the volume a bit within the tracks. I still had a few variants left over so I repeated the whole thing, and added some drum loops to bridge the halves. Oh yeah, I also changed the tempo from 75 to 90 bpm. I had fun and hope you enjoy my remix.

bells!
a cool variety of sounds here - very effective

i like the pizzicato strings early on - reminds me of how bell choirs play their handbells muted sometimes as a special effect

around 2:30 i really like how the sweeping filter creates an arpeggio on the chords

thank you

I like!
How funny that we both hadn't been composing lately and got the inspiration to do "A Bell." I like what you've done with the instruments, changing the tempo, and adding drums. I can almost hear an Irish tenor singing.Very cool!

I like that u like!
This has such a pretty melody (as you discovered) that it inspires. I've been listening to a lot of music lately but just haven't felt the spark to sit at the keyboard yet.
An Irish tenor, you say?

This is
a great version of Smokey's tune. I'm a sucker for bell sounds, as you know! I really like the rumbling pad throughout too.

Very nice!

Thanks Dave. The rumbling pad is actually Smokey's original cello note drone, played by a cathedral organ, but dropped an octave during the first half and two during the second half.

smokey's bell
hey richard. this is a christmas number one. bell-tastic. interesting left turn at 1.57 with the electronic bass and then the original theme coming back in - works perfectly. didn't hear the original but this is a cool track. nice percussive build at the end. i imagined a vocal track with harmonies.....but then i would, innit.

richard13 said 1017 days ago (September 6th, 2010)
I dunno; innit?
Thanks Julian; glad you like it. You're welcome to vocalise, and harmonise, if you like.
Cheers.

I remember one year waking up early, feeling the gifts or even opening them to find out what I'd received. I went back to bed, couldn't sleep, and had to act surprised later that morning.

Thanks Patrick. Don't blame me for the Christmas sound: Smokey composed it... though maybe I re-wrapped it a little ;-)

Bells
Rich what a wonderful arrangement. This would make a rocking Xmas release. However I have to admit I have a thing for the sound of bells peeling. Don't ask me why. Must of been a campanologist in a previous life. Great work

It is
amazing how you can get such diverse takes on one theme ....I have just the other day listened to Roxylee's take on this (Highly reccomended)and now this thoroughly delightful version...as PBman said it would make a perfectly decent Christmas tune...although his liking for the sound of bells peeling (sic)also extends to the sound of them chopping and
slicing, which is a little worrying.....but heck this is great and sort of a two for one package........re-issue at Noel?

A cracking Potato Chip Post!
apologies for the tangential allusion above, but the beginning of this, being sped up and played with more synth/n/drums, began sounding like a Mannheim Steamroller rendition (high praise indeed, I admire Chip Post.) Nice bit of arranging of both halves of this... I might have suggested not dropping everything out between the two sections, but instead leaving a drone and perhaps a lone snare drumbeat to carry into the second half. But the choice of instruments and alterations are very tasteful and enjoyable.

Drakonis
