Description:
'Wrote' this while hiking with my kids in the mountains. I welcome your thoughts.

Lyrics:
Take my hand
Move on up the mountain
Don't look back
At the world we left behind
Don't you know this path is full of changes?
Take my hand
Take my hand
Walk with me.

Feet in the dust
One step at a time
Higher and higher
The air is so fine.
If you need a rest
We can stop by the stream
We can drink moving water
And we can dream.
If you need a rest
We can stop by the stream
We can drink moving water and dream.

((Chorus))
Put your hands in the dirt
Deep and black
Deep and black.
Put your hands in the dirt
Deep and black
Deep and black.
It's where we live (deep and black)
It's where we live (deep and black)
It's where we live (deep and black)
You and me
Deep and black
You and me.

(Repeat chorus, verses, ad lib)

Rockin' the folk acapella! &mdash 01/14/05 - 03:03:09 PM
Wow! I really like this!

The vocal harmonies are fantastic and the pacing and performance of the dominant vocal is extremely interesting and well executed. The section with the hand claps sounds like a full-fledged folk revival session! The lyrics have a tasty gospel quality.

Very, very nice piece!

Thanks for the kind words. Sometimes I wish I could hear a mass choir sing it,
or at least the Fairfield Four, but mainly it's fun to hear my kids sing it on a
hike, moving on "up the mountain."

Your voice has a very mellow, pleasing quality. Not hard to
imagine you and your kids hiking up the trail, singing this!

Nice, catchy lyrics. Your overlay of vocals with the little
counter-melodies mostly work well, but things
occasionally get a bit cluttered; some of the rhythm is
diffused -- especially towards the end. It almost sounded
like an overlay of echo effects.

Good overall performance, though!

Your vocals are so bright and this song is so much fun.
Felt like I was walking that path with you guys, leaving
that world behind.

Pure joy &mdash 09/25/05 - 12:23:16 AM
...to hear this song!
And this coming (as you know) from one who sang songs on the trails
of day-hikes with her dad.
What a wonderful song to sing with your kids!
I'd go on, but I'd just be babbling.
So, thank you for sharing this one. It's pure joy :)
