Description
In late 2008, I moved to the US from Jordan. It was quite a difficult journey to get settled but one of the major positive changes that occurred in my life was when MJ and MJers had my back and helped me get back into music.
In one evening, sometime in late September of 2008, while I was away from MJ (after deleting my old "Birdman Wayne" profile), I recieved a phone call at around 12:00 AM from Scott Carmichael informing me that he started a forum at MJ to raise money for me to buy a new guitar and equipment to get back to music and recording. I was thrilled to say the least. I checked the forum afterwards and was amazed at the generosity of the MJers.
Soon, I thought that I should do something to give back to MJ and couldn't find anything better than pickin' up my guitar and writing a tribute to all MJers, in general, and to the forum guys and gals, especially.
Since most of what I write/compose is in a minor key, I decided to give an upbeat feel to this piece and try a major key this time. Sadly, I couldn't resist but to have a minor key switch in the middle. So it's mainly in the key of G but there's a minor switch to the key of Am. After combining the influence of Tommy Emmanuel's "Endless Road" and "I've Always Thought of You" (highly recommended), alongside my feelings about this place and its people, "With A Few Words" came to life.
On October 15, 2008, I received a Macintosh computer from sloparts (thanks go out to my brother for documenting the event/date!). That was my first time to have my own personal computer and it just changed everything. Having GarageBand changed the way I look at recording. So, this is the reason behind this post on this date... it's 10/15 and it's the Mac's 2nd anniversary at my house. Thank you, sloparts
Some of you might have heard "With A Few Words" before. I've recorded two earlier versions of it; one had the fake 'live performance' feel to it and the other was supposed be the 'studio version.' I was satisfied with neither of them so I ended up re-recording it again... but it's changed quite a bit. This is not the final mix, and I didn't spend much time on the mix to be honest, but I like how it turned out. As far as the title goes, I don't know how it came to me but I meant it as "With A Few Words (of THANKS)" to y'all!
I'm writing a forum post about this piece and about everything that MJ has done to me. I've been a member since late 2006 and during all that time, I've developed and gotten better in music and as a person.,. and it's all because of this place. You guys truly are my second family and I can't thank you enough for enriching me with such a great experience and knowledge... not just about music, but about life in general. Thank you!
Kind regards,
- Yeman
