Stephen's notes :
Written by Stephen Robb & John Carlin
Orchestration by Yves Baar
Written in early 1998, after a remarkably civil conversation with a young lady I was prone to arguing with. I think we'd done the constant dislike thing and come out the other side and this song reflected that strange period of calm. The original introduction for this with delayed guitars was once described to me as sounding a bit like an ice cream van approaching, to my great amusement! I recorded a new version on Garageband, with three or four different guitars and effects to build a larger sound but on reflection it had turned into a big noisy mess. I'd always fancied some sort of orchestra behind this and had been hoping to get a project where I could work with Symphony101 for some time. Fortunately he agreed, and I think the results speak for themselves, especially compared to the original file I sent him. I don't need to tell you how good his orchestration has been as you can hear it for yourself, but it remains to say he was a pleasure to work with and a real gentleman. The sound was built up in layers and I really looked forward to each new draft to hear what had changed. He never disappointed! I'd also like to thank Dani (RAVENS) who we asked to take a listen and get some advice on some mixing issues and a distorted vocal section that shall now thankfully never see the light of day! She kindly steered us in the right direction.
Yves' notes :
I felt really privileged with Stephen's proposal to work on this song. I've known Stephen for quite a while and I have always been impressed by his works, his songwriting and his amazing guitar playing. Working on this song has been a very pleasant experience, from the first listen on, it was under my skin.
Stephen is one of the nicest guys around. We got along well before we had this collab idea and this experience showed once more what a talented and nice person Stephen is. This song is a great experience for me, but most of all, I am coming out of this experience having a great friend.
I would like to join Stephen thanking Dani for giving her directions.

Lyrics
You And Me
(Written by John Carlin & Stephen Robb)
You and me know how we are.
Sky of red and burning star.
And I feel like I'm sinking in sand
and I don't know where I stand.
And If I could, I wouldn't do it the same,
but I don't feel like taking all the blame.
And If I could, I'd try to let it go.
Impossible to change the past by sowing seeds of doubt.
There's wells of mens tears that weep of things that didn't work out.
Not every picture fits the scene
as I say things I don't mean.
And maybe I don't understand;
you tried to take me by the hand.
I think that you and me know what's going on.
Even for all that's passed, don't you know
I'm not cast in stone; I feel the cold.
Impossible to change the past by sowing seeds of doubt.
There's wells of mens tears that weep of things that didn't work out.
Although it hurts you'll never tell,
as I cry my regrets into the well.
Sometime lies confuse my true intentions
and leave me feeling crippled up inside.
If I ever seemed to try and ignore you,
well don't you know it's just my misplaced pride.
Our paths cross from time to time,
trying not to cross the line.
We're sitting here all on our own
and I feel my mind is blown.
And in the end you and me know what we're like.
Thinking of things that might have been if we'd done things differently.
Impossible to change the past by sowing seeds of doubt.
There's wells of mens tears that weep of things that didn't work out.

Nice imagery in the lyric (I like "Sky of red and burning star.") The vocal sounds great, wish I could sing like that. Backing tracks lend a dramatic feel to the piece, I especially liked the strings
