Description
Thank you… Thank you… Thank you to Scott (aka 867-5309) for allowing me to attempt a guitar duet part to his most beautiful piano piece Stepping Stones! The original can be found HERE. I encourage you to listen to the original version. Scott’s playing is absolutely phenomenal.

I purchased a new Martin guitar. What a wonderful way to break it in.

I took the photo. It is of a Tibetan girl at Chinese base camp, Shishapangma, Tibet.

Scott's great music-box piece here is a perfect bed for you to strut your "other stuff"... bravo you two. There seemed to be one note you would sometimes hit on your guitar that didn't sound like it was part of the mode (like you were in minor, Scott in Major)... there, my useless nit-pick is out of the way, and I can just enjoy these two masters playing so gorgeously. Ahhh...

I think you're right
Eduard. Most of this song is played in major keys. I am so used to playing minor scales; it was a difficult adjustment to make. I'm pretty sure that I know the spots that you are talking about. Perhaps somewhere down the line I will try and correct that.

You sjhould have heard the earlier versions. Sheesh that was bad!

for dropping by and having a listen. It will take a little experimentation before I'm getting the optimal sound out of the acoustic recordings. The guitar has a great tone.

The struggle with this song was to match the quality and clarity of Scott's recording.

Nice job pushing yourself, both with a new guitar, and a different genre. How'd it feel going to the acoustic? I love my Martin, but those strings feel like steel cables compared to the strat.

Yeah, acoustic guitar isn't nearly as buttery as my strat or PRS but it is very fun to play. Martins are killer guitars. I played several Taylors and the Martins just seemed so much more solid and had such better tone.

Beautiful guitarwork!
It's nice to hear some cleverly played guitar rather than the rock/blues/folk stuff that is so copious here. I could listen to this all day. Very cleverly thought out arrangement especially the major/minor part. It all flows really well and you don't really think about it, jut enjoy listening to it. And also, nice photo to go with it. And ... I'm very jealous of your new guitar!

I'm glad you enjoyed this. It is quite a different style than I'm used to. It was refreshing getting away from the blues scale for a time. And I really needed to practice my guitar. This song made me work for it for sure.

I like your extensions of the phrases
It really fills it out well - I think this song has space for just that . . .
you really spiced it up with savory supplemental ideas
that guitar is awesome - as is your playing and picking - tastey - seriously if you ever get to this land - our state bird being the mosquito - we'll have to do an act / acts somewhere . . .

Thanks again for allowing me to noodle on your song. This was a lot of fun and very challenging for me. I'm off on a couple sections. I couldn't tell if I was just bending the note while playing or if I was playing the minor scale when it should have been major.

I need to pick a little less aggresively on the acoustic. That will take some getting used to. I'm a metal guitarist and the picking is usually pretty forceful to get harmonics from the guitar. That technique doesn't work so well with acoustic.

If I'm ever in Minnesooooda I'll let you know. I'd love to play live. That would be a lot of fun!

I got a Martin DC-160GTE dugout. It has a great combination of brightness and bassiness. It had the combination of tone and playability that I was looking for. I played about 20 high end guitars before chosing this one.

Humbled
is all I can say. Truly humbled by Mikes effort to dance his digits around this piece of music. I cant even figure out how he did it! How many takes for each section? How many sections? This was totally done by ear? I would never attempt to try this, big top hats off to you!
Let me not forget the sublime piano work by scott, as always your playing is just great! This was a well crafted song from the start, thanks to your natuural ability.

This was very difficult. It took me several weeks and many hours of practice just to put together the rudimentary guitar part that I did. I learned to play my part straight through but in order to really capture the timing and inflection I had to record in sections. I basically recorded each coda seperately. I did learn this one by ear. That's tough for someone who is tone deaf (LOL).
