Opus Schmopus in A minor

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
A song I wrote a few years ago and have added a couple of new instruments to it. It used to be called, "Fish," but I thought something more artistic would be better.

This is dedicated to all you Schmohawks out there. You know who you are.

opus dei
Nice little construction you got going on here.
Put me in mind of a piece by Art of Noise called 'moments in love'.
Musically very different just the feel and arrangement of it.
Guitar adding some nice touches and manages to not get too involved.
I like the way the chords change further in which captures the head and the heart.
Good stuff
cheers

Long Live the King
I'm familiar with "Moments in Love" and take that as high praise. Thanks King for the nice comments.

Opus
So, Opus Shmopus is a more artistic title, is it - it must be the "in A Minor" part that makes it so! I enjoyed listening to this! Nice mellow, spiritual feel to it - almost an eastern flavor - very nice - thanks!

just another schmo
but I really love the floating melody and voice choices, and the occasional surprise chord resolutions... I think the unchanging drum pattern in the background is really distracting, and I bet if you turned it off completely this piece would be untethered and float away into the dark blue sky like a beautiful balloon.
ttfn,
Drakonis

Can't
No, the drums is all part of the basic track. Sorry you didn't like them. I'll give a listen to it on the old Roland without the drums. You just might be on to something.

Thanks for the critique.

Very Cool
Love the very beginning, reminds me of old-school R&B. This track is seriously good, excellent piece!

Very pretty
I can see why you might have called it "fish": it's quite liquid, I think, and flows nicely. Thanks for the d/l: I'll enjoy hearing it again.

This is lovely
Tim - I can easily imagine it being used on a film sequence and being extremely effective.

No Schmo
Since you had to ask, I don't think you're a schmohawk, Karen.

It's a name Larry David calls bad drivers on "Curb Your Enthusiasm." I don't think that you fit that category.

Thanks for coming by and listening.

I wasn't sure what to expect
from the title but who cares?

Nicely done Tim. Really well put together.

Subtle and effective.

Peaceful
Very soothing sounds here. Almost sounds like it is recorded under the ocean or something. Lots of "aqua" sounds to my ear in this. I am no good at picking out keys but it sounds like it comes out of the minor key in some places in this, am I mistaken? This is very well done, enjoyed it!

You Are Correct!
The main part of the piece is in A minor and the other part is a motif on F# Major. Good ear Crissew.

A little something,
to help me slow down from the Christmas (last minute) rush, and enjoy this very beautiful and tranquil music.

While I do like the drums used, I think I have to agree with drak about the possibilities of this without then drums in it at all.

This is really an excellent cinematic piece Tim, Kudos to you, and Merry Christmas to ya

Drums
Thanks for coming by sloparts and giving a liste. I appreciate your comments. On a different site a guy said he really liked the drums, but I think you and Drakonis have a good critique. Maybe some day I'll go back dump the drums and see what that sounds like.

Have a Happy New Year.

This song is smooth and grows on me. I love the pacing. Melodically hypnotic...

There's...
... a "cliche" feeling to this. Not a bad thing at all; it's meant positively. I don't know what it is, though. Either the instrumentation or the drums? I enjoyed it very much and I really dig the sudden climax around 5:35. Clever work!

Not Fishy..
... although the intro burbles have a kinda underwater feel. The funny title disguises a bloody great musician at work, here. I kinda felt inclined to try and sing over this, but it doesnt need my bellowing, its complete as it is!

Fish
It's funny that you mentioned that this had an underwater feel to it because it was originally called "Fish." I changed the name because fish was too generic sounding.

Anyway, thanks so much for the nice comments. I appreciate that you came by and gave a listen.

Opus
Haddock in a Light Batter would have been a more toothsome ...but entirely lunatic name for this restful and ,yes aquatic sounding piece....the percussion sounds like a demand valve and bubbles....its way wierd but great at the same time......I am going to listen to this in the bath and then puttlepopple myne earbles underthewaterbobble.....Yeah well cool.
