Description:
A slow melodic synth-pop song that deals with the reactive nature of human relations. •Female vocals & lyrics by Leila (Iseae).

Lyrics:
•Verse 1•
Who's that hiding behind the mask. Casting long shadows in winters cold gaze. I've walked to far to turn back now. Show me your face

•Chorus•
I see your eyes in the fire light. Gazing out beyond this place. Searching for the twilight of this disease, a cancer of the mind. Swallowing whole, this moment. Lost forever in time.

•Verse 2•
Confliction of body and mind. Take two steps forward and I take one back. We'll meet six steps from center. We'll wake to find, we're face to face.

•Chorus•

•Verse 1 reprise•

Mesmerizing track &mdash 01/17/05 - 12:26:45 PM
Iseae's vocals are especially so. Really good production on this. A bridge or tempo change in the transition between her vocals would add some greater interest, but it doesn't especially need it. Well done.

A thought on adding some change ups &mdash 01/17/05 - 12:41:07 PM
I did make an attempt at a bridge after the second chorus.
But again, it was one of those things I couldn't quite get
right.

I'm kind of afraid to work on this song much more, there's
so much reverb and processor hogging instruments in
there (i.e. Sculpture) that with all the overload pop ups I
get, I sorta hesitate to meddle with it. I'll take another
look at it next weekend though.

Nice &mdash 01/17/05 - 01:16:53 PM
and relaxing really enjoyed the musical arrangement and
the female vocals are outstanding as well as the male
voice. Also kudos for the great production.

Mesmerising Vocals &mdash 01/17/05 - 02:54:35 PM
from Iseae... but much too far back in this mix to hear
those lyrics. Anthony, I'm dithering over whether the
effects on your vocals really do the track justice, I can get
a grasp on the contrast you are trying to get between the
two of you, but maybe with more 'you" in there would be
an option.
Overall though this is really a wonderful track..

A beautiful melody , arranged beautifully and the
production is very very good.

Mesmerising Vocals &mdash 01/17/05 - 04:09:27 PM
Thanks for the complimiments...The male vocals were supposed to be in total
opposition to the female, the angelic female voice next to the gritty cruchy
boy. Though I see what you mean about them not having justice served,
Anthony's a little afraid of his voice.

Bassline &mdash 01/17/05 - 03:44:49 PM
Love the bassline. That hesitation totally works. The
whispered male vocals are a nice juxtaposition to the
female vox.

The bridge is weak. I'd like it more written feeling, but in
the context of the very atmospheric arrangement I guess
it really works fine.

Don't mess with it anymore and do a new one!

windy, fuzzy goodness &mdash 01/17/05 - 04:14:31 PM
i really like the blowy feel to the whole thing-i have a
really windy, dusty video by firelight running around in my
head. really clean production-especially the bass elements
(i can crank it, still sounds good!). i thot anthony's lyrics
could have been a tad louder, but we'll see what a little
eq in iTunes does ;)

i'm digging leila's vocals-they sound 'different' somehow,
a little higher range. sets the mood perfectly. i agree w/
troy.. this one rocks-go make another one!

windy, fuzzy goodness &mdash 01/17/05 - 04:17:37 PM
Yah, my vocals are in the C4 / C5 range as opposed to the E2 / A3 range. It
was quite the stretch. Anthony won't let me do any sort of stylization when
I sing for him either.

Always love your production skills... &mdash 01/17/05 - 05:00:04 PM
and on top of it your songs are always interesting. You
two should do more work together.

The dynamic Duo Returns! &mdash 01/17/05 - 05:23:17 PM
NIce track with some great atmospheric effects! The vocals are treated in a way that almost makes them abstract... as though the lyrics are meant more to be suggestive than literal. Rather, that the lyrics are subliminal to the qualities of the vocal performances. Hm? I think you get my drift. Sort of Massive Attack expressed as an ambient remix using vocals as instruments. Whatever the case, its a gem!

Very Professional &mdash 01/17/05 - 07:14:50 PM
Very etheral vocals -- love 'em. I wonder what the
addition of some ambient harmonies would bring to her
vocals. The piano is so lovely. Just the right amound of
reverb spread over this (and you know I'm a reverb
addict!) I think you could have a longer fade on the end
synth note--just a personal opinion. This deserves high
production marks. I'm downloading it! Great job, both of
you!

Vocals... &mdash 01/17/05 - 11:42:34 PM
do need to come forward a bit more. She's in that realm
where they seem ambient, but you know she's saying
something and you just can't tell. Just a little push into the
front should help that.

Other than that, mixed sublimely. You're one of the most
pro sounds I hear on this site. Balanced wonderfully and
club ready.

I did desire a kind of break or sonic explosion to happen.
Not necessary, but I could really imagine a spot where this
song opens into a serious wash of sound. But GREAT
work!

floating... &mdash 01/18/05 - 10:23:32 AM
I really liked the way you gradually built the intensity at
the beginning of this track, leading to Iseae's floating
vocals.

The raspy male vocals offset hers nicely. Good "yin and
yang"!

You guys definitely have a "signature sound", which I like
very much. The only little thing though, which crops up
now and again on your tracks, is that there's so much
going on in the accompaniment that the mix becomes just
slightly "overwhelmed", and almost buries the vocals
sometimes.

However, you may be very deliberately and purposely
going for this wash of sound, which is actually quite cool.

I seem to be on an "ending kick" lately -- noticing how so
many songs submitted here have abrupt or chopped-off
endings. This one also sounded a bit sudden, kind of at
odds with the deliberate, floating mood you created so
well throughout the song.

Overall, I enjoyed listening to this track very much.

Rack-mounted hope &mdash 01/18/05 - 01:15:44 PM
A lovers' dilemma, drawn and quartered, flung out across
a sea of longing. Ambient cries quell the dissonance.

No definitions found for "Confliction" in my dict. No
problem, though. Poetic license.

Wonderful track. A very mellow edginess.

We bounced back and forth about confliction being an actual word...came to
the conclution that if it wasn't already, it should be.

conflict + affliction = confliction

The judges will take that!

Nice Conflictionating! &mdash 01/19/05 - 12:18:16 PM
I really enjoyed the slow driving melody, and the
juxtoposition of your two voices, the lyrics, and choice of
instruments and levels. Overall, an excellent track!
Although Iseae said it was a stretch to get that high, she
hit the notes dead-on (or was that Melodyne, only her
hairdresser knows for sure?), and Normal's growling voice
could have leaned slightly more toward singing than
growling, but maybe not. I thought this was very well
thought out and crafted. I can feel the work that went
into this, it is nicely polished.

Nice Conflictionating! &mdash 01/20/05 - 05:19:13 AM
Nah, it wasn't just Melodyne. I found that after I warmed my voice up to sing
in that range, I did ok. I can always hit those notes, but usually I'm a bit
squeeky in that range. I will admit to using Melodyne, but I was only ever 1/4
semitone off at most. That's the problem with this new technologie you can
never tell what's real and what's synthasized

Bwahaha Iseae,
I know you have a naturally wonderful voice, I was just tricking you into
letting everyone know that is *really* your voice! Ethereally pretty!

I love Iseae's vocal. So beautiful. That's why I expect
something more in the chorus..., but I really like the mood
of this song. Great song.

Thrilling other-worldly vocals &mdash 01/31/05 - 09:48:54 AM
These vocals are thrilling, other-worldly, set the track
apart. I thought they were pro samples until I read the
song description. Excellent. Arresting.

Impressed by your studio &mdash 10/04/05 - 07:51:26 PM
I found out that you exist and, that you exist in a fine way on this tune.
This is excellent. You are definitely added to my fav list.

This has a beautiful groove go'n. I liked the vocal work, the bass and
use of synths and fx. A very nice piece indeed.

discovered this gem. Amazing production and really, really gorgeous vocals from Iseae. I think the male vocals are good, actually, very fitting for the song--but truly Iseae's singing and the excellent production are what makes this stand above most ambient tunes.
