Description
To mark my sixth anniversary at MacJams, I convinced my ward, Joe Hollywood, to release this tune from his private collection of autobiographical songs. Lover-Boy displays the depth of Joe Hollywood's humble charm and his beneficent philosophy that seeks to return the love given to him by his adoring fans. (HE made me say that.)

Lover-Boy

If you're looking for love, well you need look no more,
Yes, your searching is over, 'cause I'm what you're looking for ---
I’m your lover, yeah your Lover-Boy

I can make all of your fantasies real, yeah you'll know for the first time
how really good loving can feel ---
Yeah, with this Lover-Boy

CHORUS:
Oh I can give you all that you want (Yes, I can),
I'll give you more than you need ---
All you gotta do is tell me that you want me,
Your satisfaction is guaranteed ---

I'm sure there've been guys who looked deep in your eyes,
And then whispered sweet nothings (Yeah, nothing but lies) ---
They're not real lovers, No! they're just.. under covers

So if you need love there's no need to be blue, no just
Give me a call and we'll get down tonight and we'll... Whew! ---
Yeah, gonna be your Lover-Boy --- C'mon...

INSTRUMENTAL BREAK

CHORUS:
Oh I can give you all that you want (Yes, I can),
I'll give you more than you need ---
All you gotta do is tell me that you want me,
Your satisfaction is guaranteed ---

Don't try to change me, I'm wild and I'm free.
And you know that's the way that I want it to be ---
I'm a... real lover, yeah a Lover-Boy

If you're looking for love, well you need look no more,
Yes, your searching is over, 'cause I'm what you're looking for ---
I’m your lover, yeah --- your Lover-Boy

CHORUS:
Oh I can give you all that you want (Yes, I can),
I'll give you more than you need ---
All you gotta do is tell me that you want me,
Your satisfaction is guaranteed ---

(Ad lib to end)

we had a picture thread somewhere ("18 yr old and something or another mug shots") - we posted quite a number of stuff - what fun!

This is a killer rocker, sweet. Please thank Joe Hollywood ;)

re: remember?...
Thanks, Harold. I surely do remember that fun thread... photos of a bunch of us when we were young and pretty. I think Scott (Carmichael) and michael2 walked away with the most outrageous hair, and most outrageous outfit, respectively.

And thank you for noticing my 6th MacJams anniversary. It made old Joe Hollywood happy to be out of the closet for the day. ;)

Rock it out Joe
Killer rock with a guitar that cuts to the chase and is wailin'.

Don't know nuthin' bout no glam rock, but I love it no matter what ya call it.

Very cool Joe. Could have used a little more bottom end in the form of the bass being up a few db, but it is such a cool track it may not matter.

Re: Rock it out...
Thanks, Ed. Interestingly, this mix is without a bass guitar, which probably explains its dearth on the bottom end. I think Mr. Hollywood may have semi-accidentally shot the bass player just before this session. That was not an unusual occurrence. ;)

Lover-Boy
The unashamed swagger is what rock is all about. There are some clever lines in the lyrics (And then whispered sweet nothings (Yeah, nothing but lies) ---
They're not real lovers, No! they're just.. under covers"), and the vocs deliver with attitude. Slashing doubled guitar lines are well played.

Classic neat!
This is classic neat stuff, J.A.! Forgive me for comparing -- it's more like I wanna place this tune in my musical history when I say this sorta reminds me of early Foghat boogie-rocking before getting popular with "Slow Ride" mixed with the melodic Raspberries/Eric Carmen's "Go All the Way," -- or at least from that era.

Re: Classic neat!...
Hi, Bob. Thanks for your comments. I really have learned to enjoy comparisons to peoples' favorite artists, understanding they are meant as compliments. Your time machine placement is pretty good... this was recorded in the late '70s. And I played many of the same big local venues the Raspberries played, before they became recording artists. ;)

Mr. Hollywood bares all
Wow! This is a lot of fun; thanks for breaking into Mr. Hollywood's vault and sharing this with us! I feel like I'm back in the 1980s, when I worked as a clerk in a record store... This style of music is poised to make a BIG comeback... any day now... I am sure of it? Anyway, very nicely done, nice production, everything sounds like it could have gotten radio play... perhaps it did?

Re: Mr. Hollywood bares all...
Thank you, C.C. ;)

Sadly (perhaps fortunately), none of these old songs I've posted ever infected the airwaves. They were all part of my songwriter's demo, an effort that was short-circuited by a variety of discouraging Life Events during the late 1970s and early 1980s.

They exist now as featured items in my Musical Curiosity Shop, here on MacJams... snapshots of what Mr. H *used* to be. He, of course, dresses each day in his gold and silver lamé outfits, believing his comeback is imminent, but I quickly medicate him and put him back in the closet, before he can hurt anyone. ;)

Terrific performance..
I don't write this style of music, but I can appreciate a solid, energetic performance such as you have here. I haven't heard this kind of energy in quite some time. Guitars are really wonderful,, but they are a bit shrill to my ears. Don't know if dropping them down a notch would help at all. nevertheless, that 's probably my untrained ears speaking. I did enjoy the song, however,

Re: Terrific performance...
Thanks, Paul. Your "untrained ears" my untrained foot. lol

The guitars probably are a bit shrill... and shiny, too. That was the '80s and "glam-rock." IF I ever decided to re-issue it, I would bring it into Logic and remix it with more restraint. ;)
