Lyrics
Over Christmas I went back to the place that I was born just to see my old friends and family.
And the sad fact slowly dawned that there's really nothing else in those shores to go back for.
Apart from ale and pies, apart from ale and steak and kidney pies.
Cornish pasties are a gift (a gift from heaven)
But why do all the pubs close early? (they close at eleven)
And why so surly?
I know that it's early
I want you to serve me.
And help me, please, to understand how the hell you got a job in sales.
Now I live here, in Japan, and I'm not sure I'll ever be a part of the community.
And the sad fact slowly dawned that there's really nowhere else for me to call a home.
I'll always be a gaijin. Always be a gaikokujin.
Sakura falling into wines at Hanami
But it's really hard to find locations so just name your streets.
But you're not surly,
Although it's early
You're happy to serve me.
Help me, please, to understand irashaimase.

Full marks!
Now, this is some high-quality busking, I must say! I am an instant fan of your voice and style and your guitar work is very polished--I could picture you performing this, and that takes something special for a recording artist to pull off. Thanks for brightening the joint up with this tune! Michael

brilliant lyrics!!!
I like the fact that the lyrics are so specific - most lyrics on here are about huge topics, but this is rooted in grim reality. I've heard that Japanese streets aren't named - how do posties find their way around?

Straight, no chaser
I like the frank lyrics and intimate recording. Made me feel like I was in a coffee house.

Thanks for the dl :)

pies busked
Well written songs need little in terms of production. I really like the lyrics. The repeated phrase, "And the sad fact slowly dawned" is particularly good.
