Description:
Something a little different. I experiment a lot so I like feedback.

Lyrics:
Walkin' round in the swamp of ignorance is turnin' out to be a needle chase in hay/ so my mind is empty once again/ Don't know what I'm gonna say/ I don't know nuthin' bout bein' smart / feel comfortable in my swamp once more/ I almost drowned in a sea of thoughts/ I remember I can swim if I move my arms/ ignorance is a friend of mine just relax and I'm doin' fine then I remember his name/ it's Jack, as in Jack Daniels got the old shot glass right here but I'll just tilt it back like a beer. Walkin' round in the swamp of ignorance is turnin' out to be a needle chase in hay/ so my mind is empty once again/ Don't know what I'm gonna say/ I don't know nuthin' bout bein' smart / feel comfortable in my swamp once more

Beck-ish &mdash 01/19/05 - 01:35:10 PM
Love the guitar licks, but man that's a fuzzy tone! Was the solo improvisational? I ask because there's a sort of empty phrase in the middle of an otherwise cool solo that felt a little happenstance.

I like that the song kind of peters-out at the end, but somehow it feels like it ended prematurely. Maybe take it out with some more solo phrases?

I can't quite tell if you distorted the vocals or not. You may need to bring them up a bit or EQ them away from the guitar. The percussion is a little obsured too. Is that a live bass? Post those lyrics!

I appreciate the comparison. I like Beck a lot. Originally this song was 5
minutes long and I tried to edit it down. The bass is live I used the guitar
settings though to get a nice distortion. The "Punk Bass" in the presets has
a lot of hiss to it and I wanted something a little cleaner.

I'll beposting the lyrics today.

Thanks for the feedback, I think I may try to rerecord it with some of your
suggestions.

Rough sounding but definitely consumable. Great guitar
licks.

Thanks!

I was going for that low-fi dirty feel for this.

There's a lot to like in your music, and it seems to be getting more expressive with each posting.

I suggest the first line needs reworking for metaphorical consistency, as "needle chase in hay" has nothing to do with the watery swamp imagery consistent throughout the rest of the song ("drowned in a sea of thoughts" and "I can swim"). Maybe something like "is turnin' out to be an alligator chasing his tail?"

Good suggestion! A lot of times I take random thoughts and write them out on slips of paper and then mix 'em up and see what I get. I think "Alligator chasing it's tail " is a great line. Do you mind if I use it?

The fuzz was cool but I wonder how the song would
sound just a little cleaner (guitar only) maybe with the
bass a little higher in the mix. Just suggestions- I don't
know what the heck I'm talking about anyway :) Fuzztone
works great on the vocal...I agree that it is a Beckish style.

Cool organ riff at the end.

Thanks! I can't take credit for playing the organ riff at the end , it's a loop. I am considering rerecording this as an acoustic version. If I find the time to.

Plz make time. This is a rockin song that just need a little polish to be great. Maybe instead of fuzz on the rythm guitar you could try a different style of traditional distortion to clean it up a bit, and still maintain a "different" feel. Possibly some longer sustained notes in the lead, but that's just my own taste. I like that the vocals are not all stitched together cohesively. The randomness of the lyrics reminds me of zappa. The standard rock/blues riff is sorta beckish. The melding of the two distinct styles into your own is brilliant.

Thanks for the compliment.
I need to find some time where I can redo some of these songs and polish them up a little, so in the meantime I appreciate the feedback.

this was to my taste very good, nice live bass, it was
pleasing to the ear... I do as well like the licks a lot... great
original work...i to an effect like the fuzziness, gave it an
different flava:)
