Description
I'd like to begin by saying that I hate writing song descriptions on collabs because I'm always afraid I'm going to forget to say something or offend someone...so please bear with me. I have been throwing up all day, but I didn't want to wait one more minute to post this!
I originally posted this asking for assistance and opinions on October 28th. Almost immediately I was contacted by Fred (Loob) with a strings addition (exactly what I was looking for) and things just evolved from there. Andy (Awigze) sent me a sax part (which, although it was effing BRILLIANT, only took him, like, a day) which I spent copious amounts of time cutting, pasting, and loving and at that point I was invited to post my "session" on Freddy's website (fjams). On FJAMS I met Eddie Wilson, who contributed guitar and lots of moral support. Fred tolerated my daily nitpicking of his drum selection until he got it just right, and then I was ecstatic. I can be a bit of a perfectionist, green though I may be. Fred also mastered this.
All of this evolved from a poem written by a dear friend of mine, Peter Holbrook. I put it to music about a year ago and decided that it needed more. This is the result.

Lyrics
On the outskirts of the ocean
on a summer's night
we lay blankets in the sand
bathed in lush moonlight
held you like a driftwood doll
tenderly but tight
it was there I told my stories
some I barely knew
you were in them one and all
they were meant for you
what is real is fantasy
fiction always true
you swam naked in the ocean
ballet of the tide
water glistened down your skin
foaming from your glide
floated like a whiskey jar
with a note inside
I went wading out to join you
one more tale to tell
saw you dancing with the tide
rising with each swell
you were reaching out to me
just as morning fell
then the distance of the shoreline
and the rolling sky
claimed the yearning in my heart
years I wondered why
neither of us sank away
though we said goodbye
on a summer's night
we lay blankets in the sand
bathed in lush moonlight
held you like a driftwood doll
tenderly but tight
it was there I told my stories
some I barely knew
you were in them one and all
they were meant for you
what is real is fantasy
fiction always true
you swam naked in the ocean

water glistened down your skin

claimed the yearning in my heart

though we said goodbye
