Description
This is a bit of a strange one for me..I mean strange in that this is actually influenced by something ...I am a great fan of the Sergio Leone Spaggheti Westerns, and in one (For A Few Dollars More I believe)the climax is a shoot out between Lee Van Cleef's character and the bad Guy......the shoot out starts when a musical watch chimes it's last chime....the other day I was just noodling and quite by chance stumbled across that little chime sequence that starts and ends
this piece. The rest is a sort of practicsed improvisation (well I 've been too bone idle to tab it out or write it down then)trying to sound a little Spaggheti Western without being too Morricone and I put a bleak harp along with it....I am not sure about the 'Monica....but then hell I am not sure about anything especially my music...have fun see what you think.

Good, bad, and ugly...
very reminiscent of Good, bad, and ugly...one of my favorite films after meeting Clint Eastwood in Pebble Beach back in the early 70's...I also had a huge crush on him when I was in my teens...have loved all his work. Also reminds me of some of the tracks on Pat Garrett and BIlly the Kid.... Really In joy'd!!! ~barbara

Love the guitar and Bass Chris,
but the harp sounds like you need to use a different key Harp. Still, the overall effect is something that seems to work. Kind of a Blues, Spanish Guitar knd of thingy.

Excellent quality on the recording and mi my friend, and it does have a bit of the Spaghetti Western feel running through it's veins.

Very cool post my friend. I think it's great.

No bass Ed
that was all the 175 Epi ,it has a great sound and tone. And I wished I had used a valve or tube amp before now.....as to the harp ...I am such a dickhead I did use an A major harp when the chords are Am,Dm and Em...so that is associated Am ..should maybe have used the C with some bends.....The recording and mix was improved because I have used some buttons in Cubase that I had previously avoided...this has been both an epiphoney (arf) and a Doh! production..

Thamks for dropping in Ed

All good, as far as I can hear...
not a bad or ugly around anywhere. Nice work Chris. I have an upcoming piece called Music For a Hip-Hop Spaghetti Western but yours is much more bleak (as you say) and therefore more fitting. Besides, I don't think there's a whole lot of call for hip-hop spaghetti western music so I think I have the market cornered. If a studio calls, are you in?

Yeah thanks Richard
but a couple of the guys here spotted that I used the wrong harp...verdamnt ...altho' I nearly got away with it and the car crash was not too terrible....I have done a repost at icomposition using a C...thanks tho' and yes IF a studio ever called I would be IN. 80)

I guess I had better stop leaving comments until I've learned a little more, like which artists I can trust to use the right tools and not embarrass me ;-) Actually, I thought everything you did here was deliberate: you know, symbolic of tension or conflict or something. Ah, wot do I know? I STILL think it sounds good and am glad the car crash left you alive. And, by the way, I meant to type WHEN the studio calls...
Cheers.

The wild wild west
Nice work on the guitar. It sounds appropriately moody for a good spaghetti western. The harmonica is cool in places, but I think a couple times it plays in major while the guitar plays in minor.

To quote a Bobby DiNero line
from "Analyse This" You're good you you're good no no you're really good" damn your ears ! No you are absolutely spot on I used an A major harp....it is no wonder i kept getting blue spots when I was trying to bend the notes to match the guitar...what a first class gold plated burk i am ...I have put a redo over at icomposition usinga C harp I'm not sure if that is right but it sounds better! and it seened easier to play....doh!!

the harmonica is wrong but it seems to work here and there...I '.leaving this up as a testament to me being a twit and using wrong key harp and nearly getting it to work !!
No wonder i got dizzy bending it...
Cheers .

I think
This is Good I don't think its bad. That just leaves the Ugly to deal with so over to you for that one. Am I right in thinking that's the one when the music stops they all shoot each other. Now wouldn't that bring something new to Macjams. Nice one buddy.

Not too big on Morricone
but I loved your pastiche here greatly Chris--some fantastic touches throughout this (proposed new title: "A Fistful of Rain"--sorry, couldn't help myself!) Keep up the fine work and thanks for coming up with this--something different (you really DO come up with some untapped things quite often!) Michael

Michel,Hi
yes I never know what's going to happen in my head at any given moment...it is fun most of the time but can sometimes be a bit fraught..especially when the ride gets a little too frenetic !

I just listenede again and tho' it is the wrong key harp it i8s not too bad cos I only played A E and D notes mostly so they are a little sharp in the mix....now that adds to the overall starkness that i wanted ....okay ,okay i made3 a mistake.

Cheers

Spaghetti...
Sure sounds good right now, I'm starving!

What a cool piece, my Aunt was a fan of old Westerns. She would have surely appreciated this, I certainly do. Great stuff!

Cool artwork too!

I love the guitar
and the new amp...never realised how much difference there was in a tube amp and the hollow semi acoustic Epi is a dream.....Just need to sort my ears and the right harp...although I am getting some feedback that says the harp whist wrong is working right....music ! I s'pose it does not hafta be all melodic ...ask Stravinsky !!

Thanks pal,catch you later.

The range
of things you will have a go at Chrius amazes me. I get this picture of that very bleak little town in a later Eastwood film "The Unforgiven"cold ,grey and with a tension in the air thats just waiting for something to "kick off". Moody and magnifficent and intentioned or otherwise the "differnet key" harp sort of adds rather than detracts to my ears. Cheers for your commetn of DOTHB, glad you liked the pick , ( thought you might!!) cheers Mark

I do
get antsy if I stay in one genre too long. I sort of have a wheel that I turn and when something finds me I go with it.I s'pose ,without getting precious poncey or luvvy about it it all depends on mood and frame of mind.

The more I listen to this the more and more forgiving I become about the harp...it does add the "bleak sun bleached starkness " I was after......the version at icomps has a C harp . Happy accidents eh ?

Oh well.

Cheers

there is just nobody like you chris!! looks like you've got the harp mystery sorted out - love the feel and character on this - very creative. i'm guessing that is your drawing for the song art - if so, great job on that too!

I should really
take a leaf out of your book tho' and invest some time and a bit of talent in these things rather than throw them together.....I think I am more of an ideas man who can play a little bit.......still it keeps me out of trouble.....or no it doesn't !!

I realize
the harps are not the right key. But for that reason it's giving me a feel for the lonely cowboy walking his horse through the hot dry desert with no water in sight.

I am getting
more comfy with the harp being the wrong key....probably ,and no problem with the guys who rightly pointed it out the academic side of musicsays "hell no that is wrong" and it was a mistake.....but ,and this is important...you have hit the nail on the head for me.....I was after a feeling to this tune...the feeling more so than the melody and if it has worked out that the wrong harp gives that feeling then booyah,Happy Accident.....but academically the guys are right and I have no problemo with that.

Thanks for dropping in and having a peek

Nice improv
suitably spaghettiish - nice word huh? The harp adds a nice touch and the places where it feels a little off just adds to the atmosphere - like some guy leaning on a door jam watching the drama unfold on the street. In his own world - watching another go by.

The other guitar!!!!
JARVO!!!! Very good this mate, well impressed, nice guitar work and nice phrasing throughout. Harp works well gives good balance. Only crit I can dare make is the lack of a middle section with an extra guitar part poss just picking through the melody. But well impressed.
