Description

(with Tokai)

Jason is a kid I met a few years ago in a campground in the Upper Peninsula.
We had a long chat around the fire with a friend of him that was going to join the military the next day.
Jason was so open about his struggle with school, family, friends and future. I guess it's easier to talk to strangers.
I didn't see him again. A great kid. I hope he is doing ok.

Tokai sent me these monster guitars to play with. I added some drums, vocals and the little Spanish touch. Took me months, but I'm finally abandoning it (never finished). Thanks my friend.

Used Reaper to mix (for mac). So powerful and at an incredible price. If you need to graduate from GB, give it a chance.

ha ha, that is funny. Mate, a massive thank you for putting up with me again, your commitment and help is astounding. I think everybody has to realise that this is the 9th take and has changed so much.

Sounds nice and rich, nothing like what i sent to you originally. Amazing job done putting all this together, the drums are something else. I know this story a bit more in depth and you found very fitting words to accompany that story.

Perfectly sung, with great harmonies and changes.

	U.P. This was near Menominee. I found it surprisingly similar to my oceanic hometown almost in the antipodes. Pine trees, dunes and blue water, and trains. 	Reaper I don't know much about DAWs, but this fits me very well. Kinda like the rough simplicity and power. Nice sounding engine and plugins. Not too hard to work with coming from GB I think. Very good manual. Anyway, it doesn't cost a dime to test it and to get the full thing is just $40. A steal. Check out my latest song called Everything

I knew (or paid attention?) to reaper when you mentioned it in the forums a few weeks ago to use it as a midi editor. I also listened to the song you made with it. Suave stuff.
I recently bought a presonus interface, in part because of their Studio One DAW. But after some days of use I was having some issues (particularly one nasty bug in comping multiple takes) that was killing me, and was also somewhat pissed off with the almost malicious limitations of the Artist version (yeah, they need to sell, but unless you get the $200 upgrade to the Pro version you can't use external plugins).

It is like heaven. Routing, side chaining, groups, trees of tracks (awesome feature), channels inside tracks with different effects... this is freaking nuts. I didn't use a lot of that in here though (except for routing the drum outputs to 4 tracks). I bought a book about advanced mixing with reaper and it opened my eyes to what you could do with routing and effects (ReaMix: Breaking the Barriers with Reaper, price quite accessible). I guess you could use the techniques in there with other DAWs too. The user interface may be not as polished as the competition but I don't care much about that.

I develop software to bring the buck$ home and I have to give these guys (3) credit for the incredible quality of the software design (did you see the processor usage and the size of the whole program? man), their agile development methodology and, yeah, their business model. You pay the full price (which is still a bargain) if you get more than 20K with your music, reduced price to everybody else, use it free until you get the mon... er, 30 days (they know most of us will pay sooner or later). A perfect world. I recon they can do that because they have money from previous projects (the lead developer must be billonaire) but most of all because, I think, they love music.

Easy Listening
You just gave me my laugh-out-loud of the day--before I clicked "Play", I checked the genre out of curiosity. Easy listening?!?!? I jumped out of my chair! Here I am expecting something that sounds like Dan Fogelberg . . . LOL!!!

Having said that, this is COOL! The soaring vocals, and the moments where the harmonies are a fifth apart, are really good. Very intense--kind of has the same effect on me that listening to Tool does. (I love Tool, BTW--my fav bad ever--so that's a huge compliment.)

That's a great comment. I may steal some of your wording for a lyric. Tokai is the only responsible in the riffage area. I tried to play this riff while singing (it helps me to play guitar while singing, don't ask me why): hey, not that easy. And I guess the solo has to be a maze of fingers (didn't even try).

No hay nada mas ridiculo que esa categoria de easy listening. Depende de cada uno, no? Para mi esto es refacil de escuchar por ejemplo. Asi que le mande esa. De ahora en mas todo sera "easy listening" con "explicit lyrics".

wow guys....this is sensational. i immediately thought of the soundtrack from 'trainspotting' for some reason. it's like punk...but art punk. love the left turn at 2.46...and that solo is INCREDIBLE. Ha! that was good. I think you invented the genre we are going to work from now on. Our mate melted the pick in that solo. When Steve sent me the original track it blew me away. Not (only) because of the speed, but the weird scale he's using and the combination of crazy runs with floating sustains.

I keep changing things while a song is not "abandoned". And I keep finding things that could be better in recent tracks. You know, things like this phrase could be different, there's and extra cymbal at the end, the vocals could be louder.
But then, after a long long time, I may hear this song and would ask myself precisely what you are asking me.
