There's really no describing nor justifying this composition ;)

December 5th was my sixth year Mac Jams anniversary, so I decided to do something 'Myst-ified'...well, actually this time 'round Riven-ified (for those who are familiar with those computer games).

Now, everyone..count to six like good little villagers. And don't forget your mantra to Gehn...or you'll be fed to the
Wahrk.

	Cool game, too Those games introduced me to 'ambient' music, and I was hooked. They also got me to start dabbling in computer graphics. 	Wanted to Cricle back and leave a real comment. As always, a beautiful soundscape with luscious singing. Like all the little touches of sample and hold synths sprinkled throughout. 	Time to revisit Riven... I played that game twice. Not just because I like computer games (my foray into computer games pretty much ended with the Myst series...) but because the storyline was fantastic and the world-building completely immersing. I played Riven. Even managed to finish it. Gehn was the baddie, as I recall. Good music there. This is even better. Excellent concept. I think it's perfectly described and justified. The counting off of the numbers is beautiful and surreal. And the harmonies mixed with the angelic choir takes it to a new level. The rhythmic step-up at 3 minutes is a nice touch.

A very impressive baddie--made the game very interesting.

Thank you for listening and for the very nice words. I knew I was breaking away from the more 'earthy' sounds of Riven by using electronic chirps and burbles, but I was having so much fun with those textures, I decided to keep them.

...doesn't compare. You gotta at least explore Riven to get an idea of what you're missing! ;) I'm sure you have an old Mac with OS9 lying around somewhere...yes??

Thanks for the comments, B. The vocals were fun do--there's something about close dissonant singing. Probably because people rarely ever *ask* you to sing harmonies that hurt the ear :P

Enjoyed Myst, never played Riven
And of course, it came out when I too was just starting to learn to make my own 3D panoramas, so I loved the imagination that went into the game, as well as the technology of displaying the graphics.

Beautiful ethereal mixture of the electronic and the analog.

I am deeply disturbed....
...that after all these years, I still remember what a Wahrk is...

The only Myst game I played beginning to end without using a cheat... I was SO proud of myself....

Gosh...I need more time in the day to respond to all the comments here--but I'll take a moment to answer your question. All the sounds you hear were generated in Logic Pro.
I took sounds from the Sculpture Synth, Sculpture Legacy, Motion Sequence synths, FX synth, and Modeled Bells.
As with most compositions I do, there's not a lot of organization to it--just some haphazard experimenting with sounds until I find something that seems to 'fit' and then stacking sound upon sound intuitively.
I really enjoy working with Logic Pro. The ability to 'find' a sound and then modify it slightly gives you unlimited possibilities.

To be able to put such imaginative and sometimes unlikely backdrops against my vox has been a true adventure and enjoyable journey.

Cool, atmospheric, and storylike. This takes us places, puts us under foreign skies and lets us hear sounds wafting on the breeze. In headphones, there is no escaping the environment you create (are you writing this in a book by any chance?)

I reloaded Riven not long ago. Amazing game, and the graphics are stunning.
