Description

Here is a song that started with Cyrus' backing track made with Fruity loops I believe he said. The range of the song was a bit high for my vocals (G# minor key, lol). Natalie came on board and helped clarify my first verse melodically then rewrote the second verse I had written and sung (much better too I might add). Her voice was frankly better for this song than mine so we went with her singing lead. Next I asked paddler to put accordion in the song. He sent me 2 real accordion tracks and a synth one. I actually only used the real accordion tracks he sent me. It really gave a different flair to the chorus! VicDiesel sent a bunch of awesome recorder parts from alto, soprano and tenor recorders, really awesome! Then I asked Yeman (BirdmanWayne) to do a fingerstyle acoustic part in the song. He absolutely did an amazing job on it. WOW. You can tell he spent a lot of time getting everything just right and it shows. Cyrus' on the drum and bass parts here BTW. Great job to all the people that worked with me on this, I think it came out pretty special thanks to all of you.

What can I say?
Hi Charles. Fantastic lead vocals by Natalie set up this great song. Your vocal contribution is also critical. The rest of the mix sits justs right as well. 	Know Me Reflective and pensive vibe. Great contributions by this all-star band. I like the acoustic in particular, but the recorder and accordian have some great moments too. Vocs are top knotch. It is unbelievable how many versions of this song you went through to get here, I wish people could hear the evolution, the turns this has taken, it's really amazing, I heard them all, and honestly had my doubts as you know, but wow dude, you really honed this into a stellar production!
A totally pro product with incredible vocals by Natalie, an extremely well written song, (you should post the lyrics!), I was really against your singing on this, but you came through with a perfect performance, and just the right placement, everyone else involved here, Cyrus' original inspiration, Paddler's accordion, which I thought was an insane idea, works wonderfully, and the you were like "I'm gonna ask Vic for some recorders", and I thought you'd lost your mind, because I heard this as a total R&B song, but you had the vision and you made it happen and I am blown away at how good this is! Awesome!!!!!!

This song has really taken a lot of twists and turns and I honestly was worried it was never going to go anywhere, which would have been a shame because as soon as I heard it I was in love with it. This is probably the most professional sounding collab I have heard on MJ in ages. Bar none. Hauntingly beautiful, tender and melodic. The instrumentation weaves some amazing passages. The B-man's acoustic is just perfection and crystal clear, couldn't have made a better choice. Love Paddlers accordion, too.

The one question I have is about the vocals. Is there a flanger or chorus plugin on the lead vocals? (there is definitely one on the backing vox) They seem to have this muffled warbling effect to them. It's not terribly pronounced, but it is noticeable and IMHO distracting and detracting from the whole. The vocal performances are so perfect as they are, I think a cleaner mixing approach would be a better choice.

Really incredible. Well done EVERYONE! What a crew!

I think what you are hearing
First off, thank you for the high compliment. As far as the backup vocals go. I added a wide stereo spread to the backup vocals. For some reason, it sounds a little flangy at times when you do that. It helps give the vocals an all around you type sound. I have experimented with my voice and have settled on that basic backup vocal sound which I like and works well with my voice. I also added a very subtle autotune to one of the backups. Like using a different reverb or compression, I find it thickens up the harmonies.

As far as overall effects in this song, it is pretty bare. Lead vocals have nothing but some reverb and compression for the most part. Natalie's second verse has some delay on them. mainly just to add a new dimension of interest in the second verse.

I'm glad you got rid of that electronic percussion!

In all, a good song, well written well sung. The instrumental parts are all nicely serving to support the vocals, which is what it's about. (I know I sent you at least twice as much as wound up in the final mix, but that's fine.)

The guitar in the beginning is a bit too prominent. It overpowers both the recorder in the intro and the vocals in the first verse.

Also, I wonder, since this song is in 3/4 time, the first line can be confusing to the listener, since everything immediately happens all at once, and a listener expecting the usual 4/4 time is thrown off for a bit. I would have inserted a couple of bars of guitar picking, just to establish the rhythm.

A pleasure working with you again, and my compliments to all other parties involved. You really know how to blend multiple players into a coherent song.

Is Natalie's voice perfect?
I think it just might be. I love the way the meandering verses are so deliciously resolved in the chorus. The accordion turnaround in the chorus is amazing and really provides a very memorable hook. You're right, Charles - this is a pretty special track and everyone involved should be very proud of it.

I love the way your voices blend. Quite a team you put together here, and it certainly shows. This is a really excellent tune, with great performances. I love the accordion - great choice Charles, and great performance Rich. Unfortunately, I'm listening on bad laptop speakers, but I'll come back later for a real listen. This is super cool.

Lots to like
Another supergroup takes the stage led by a strong female voice. The instrumentation here is awesome ... a great blend of the traditional with the slow jam rhtyhm on the radio today. The real accordion, with all of its detuned intricacies adds a real body to the song. Tack on the intertwining recorder parts and fingerstyle and your backing vocals and you've got a certifiable hit.

I am curious as to why you chose to fade the end. It sure sounded to me like the solo guitar played a figure that would have been the perfect song-ender, holding on the greatest chord.

Total nit not worth picking. Cheers all!

The instruments and voices weave one into another throughout this piece in a captivating presentation. Variety and spice of recorder and accordion make special moods happen. You and Natalie each have your own great vocal style- apart, and together with those ear-catching, distinctive harmonies. They are very fun-to- listen to. I salute all of you who concocted this great musical experience!

Charles (and the gang!) I loved reading the genesis and story behind how this was created. Adds so much to what is already a fantastically crafted tune. For some reason, the accordion really sets it apart for me as you don't hear a lot of that these days. Natalie's vocal is stellar as always! Excellent mix and total pro sound. Fantastic work all concerned.
