I sent this to Andrew Lack and asked if he’d be kind enough to put a bass guitar track on it. Minutes later he’d done it. He then offered to mix it, and very quickly it roller-coasted into a full-on re-working and numerous very enjoyable skype conversations. Andrew then suggested sending it to Mike Watkins who very kindly put some percussion on. We then had more to and fro tweaks and finally we arrived at this. Andrew is such a nice guy, and a real professional – a perfectionist…..and I love working with perfectionists.

Lyrics
winter clouds drifting lonely grey
got into your head and now won’t go away
they follow you most everywhere you go
better off with them than any devil you don’t know
and the lights go down, and you stumble round
an empty aching in your soul
on your own is where you’ve found a friend
in a solitude where you can see no end
no fake or fool is going to bring you down
to the shiny end of your dark and lonely town
where the lights go down, and the people found
they share the aching in your soul
and you cry into your hands and wonder why
all the people seem to have a better time than you
and you walk home alone and the riverboats they come and they go
and every flame of hope inside is slowly dying
and it drags you down and round and round
although you keep on trying
there’s a place you know where you’re blinded by the light
and you sigh and we cry
another lonely soul
another lonely soul
got into your head and now won’t go away
they follow you most everywhere you go
better off with them than any devil you don’t know
and the lights go down, and you stumble round
an empty aching in your soul
on your own is where you’ve found a friend
in a solitude where you can see no end
no fake or fool is going to bring you down
to the shiny end of your dark and lonely town
where the lights go down, and the people found
they share the aching in your soul
and you cry into your hands and wonder why
all the people seem to have a better time than you
and you walk home alone and the riverboats they come and they go
and every flame of hope inside is slowly dying
and it drags you down and round and round
although you keep on trying
there’s a place you know where you’re blinded by the light
and you sigh and we cry
another lonely soul
another lonely soul

Julian, this superb! First off the melody and lyric are excellent. Mike did a very nice job here, subtle and tasteful all the way through. Andrew is in the pocket as always, great mix too! The vocal overlays really are well thought out and combined with the harmonies (especially on "sigh and cry") are killer. You should be very proud of this. Great job all!
