Description
This is probably the mother of all saloon songs, written in 1930 by Gerald Marks and Seymour Simons (who, I think, never went anywhere past this song, although rumor has it they wrote the theme song for the TV show "What's Happenin'?"). Thanks again and hope you all have a warm, toasty weekend! As usual, I'm accompanied here by the immensely talented Alan McPike (yanno, he told me he creates all this on a $79.00 Casio keyboard).

All of Me
i am SUCH a fan of the steve martin movie ("edwina in bowl!"). the dance scene at the end that plays this theme song is one of the coolest such scenes i think i've ever watched in a movie. love alan's backer and your voice MJK - is it even real? it's just ..... CLASSIC!!! great job (hilarious photo!)

Thanks Karen!
I often listen back and think I concentrate too much on the intonation and wish I had done more with the phrasing--it's a ying-yang battle, but I think I'm getting a little closer to how I want to deliver the thing. Happy to hear from you--take good care now! Michael

A sleep disorder?
Michael, do you ever sleep? Or have you got a vault of these classics and just dole them out when we need some cheering up. Thanks again. My MP3 player is bulging. Peter.

Oh goodness no!
Not with my crazy schedule Peter--I'd say one out of four things I slap up here are from the past (although rarely my real old junk--the mixes were horrifying on those: still learning back then!) Thanks so very much and glad you liked this classic song. Take care now, Michael

All of it
Hi Michael,

All of it good, as usual!

You seem to exist in a dimensional jazz lounge shift, and the tuneful gravitation draws us all into its cheerful warmth and good time feeling!

That's what music does, i suppose. Someone should tell NASA.

Cheers!

Hey Dave
Yeah, that was a very cool solo and one reason I didn't ad-lib over anything (really, I only do that when the track is weak but that's never a problem with Mr. M's stuff!) Thanks greatly--you take care now! Michael

Bravo!

This is fabulous MJK!

One of your best, IMO.
That jazzy bass really gets me going.

Thanks Mike!
Lately I've been working with a pair of headphones that are not quite the same as my older Bose that broke several months ago---I've not been quite so confident with my mixes since then, so truly happy this sounded good to you in that line. What a very kind comment---it's very much appreciated Mike. You take care now and have a good week, Michael

Another of the old geezer's all time favourites. I think he's getting an MJK compilation album for Christmas! Cool stuff Michael. I have visions of you recording this in your living room beside an open fire, in smoking jacket with glass of brandy and cigarette holder and brylcremed hair!

Hi Stephen!
Incidentally (and I'm the last one to push my stuff) but I did a recording of "Ain't Misbehaving" on here that I dedicated to the aforementioned "old geezer" (please send my warmest regards to pop by the way!) Well, I don't drink, and I don't smoke, so no Charles Boyer-style smoking jacket and I'm not exactly sure what the hell the name of that goop is that I slick my hair down with (it comes in a shoe polish can and I'm beginning to think that's just what it is) but the tableau you limned there suits me fine! Okay, best to you both--thanks again--and take good care now! Michael

Rats!
I can't play any songs on MJ, there must be something wrong with my Quicktime player. I'm very frustrated, tried rebooting a dozen times. I'll figure it out & I'll be back later, but until then, I won't lose my head over it.

I know you told me you fell asleep and fell on the floor--I'm hoping there was no residual damaged caused by that accident, so at first I was rather alarmed by your message, but glad it was just a PC-related thing and nothing involving a possible concussion, hemorrhage, et. al.! Dr. Moe

Another heady performance
I appreciate your references to old sci-fi movies. Very influential on my worldview as a kid. Yes, there lies part of the blame. I always dug those brainy chicks. Nice to see that someone tends to her makeup. What's Happenin'! Hahahaha. Their crowning achievement, no doubt. So, what is the deal with you? How do you produce these so quickly? Do you have a support staff? If you don't want to answer personal questions, then please accept my congratulations on another addition to your stellar body of work.

Something tells me I would enjoy myself immensely being around you--I think we are aligned somewhat in our interests! Well, that of course is a still from the classic "The Brain that Wouldn't Die" and in my book, easily one of the best head living in a cake pan movies EVER! There are actually a good handful of cake pan head movies (one I recall starred Dana Andrews after his career faded) but this was the first and best as far as I know. Well, a good majority of the recordings I slap up here are ones I've done in the past (I've been recording now for five years) and every now and then I'll put up something new. It's one reason I've been posting with such celerity lately: to get all those old recordings submitted so that I have some "incentive" to get on to newer things, you see? Anyway, I greatly appreciate hearing from you and enjoy reading your comments and what you have to say. You take good care now and hope you have a sprightly week! Michael

Smooth and full-voiced

all these oldies Michael, partly because they are of my era when I was young and lithe (good word), but I still think I could knock out a good jive to this rendition.... nice bouncy pace and of course, your always excellent vocals.... have a great Christmas Michael, regards M

OK
I am not believing that bit about the Casio keyboard one bit. Next you'll be telling me your singing is all auto-tune on a built in laptop mic. Listening to your music reminds me of going into the basement as a young child and finding all those old 78's and trying to play them on my Victrola at 33 1/3 until I caught on ("Oh, its not the chipmunks?!"). Anyway, I grew up with a lot of this stuff too and I really appreciate your wonderful talent.

I really can't believe Alan created all these on a $79 Casio keyboard. If this is true, it is a remarkable achievement. Another great collab from you two.
