Description:
Bring the Noise! Here is my version of “No Meaning No” by Chuck D. and the Fine Arts Militia. I made it for The Militia Mix contest, but it probably won’t win because it is too freakin’ weird. Basically, it sounds like I just stomped the hell out of it with an AT-AT. Many of the noises that you hear are chunks of the original song, run through a lot of effects. The stomping beat was created with a couple distorted/chopped drum loops… some software percussion and noises were thrown for excitement. It gets a little goofy in the middle, but stick around…it brings the “funk” at the end. Note: The samples are OK - they were taken off the WIRED CD (Creative Commons).

can't hear 'em

this is rich, kat.
it's like trip hop from post apocalyptic berlin.
bring some more of the vocal line back, and this
would easily grab the mainstream hook that you've
dodged, and become serious chart material.
but without that vocal line, you know that you've won
my approval.
tight tight tight.
cheers.

It's not exactly... &mdash 01/19/05 - 03:52:32 PM
...music, but it's pretty cool. It's intense. Something very
interesting happening, yet unknown. Might be interesting
to add some strange sounding instrument, kinda' dancing
around and in between those heavy blasts, some kind of
continuous but ever-changing funky thread. This just got
my imagination going.

Thanks for the comment pgreen... &mdash 01/19/05 - 09:48:48 PM
yeah the thought did cross my mind to make this one more "musical" at
one point... but I recently added a solo over a chunky beat on my "yellow
river slam" tune, and it worked pretty well, I think... I didn't want to do
the same type of thing again, right away at least, because part of the fun
of it for me is to try and approach things differently with each tune.
Plus, I just wanted this one to be an all-out noisefest... you know, revel
in being obnoxious!!!

Nifty. &mdash 01/19/05 - 04:00:31 PM
This is frickin' awesome. What I find great about your
works is that its experimental and out there, but its also
entertaining to listen to. Love the Ewok-crushing beats
and the Jedi-mind blasting distortion. At times I felt the
sound went too far away and for too long. Well, let me
listen to it again...

See I love how the sound hits then steps back, getting
ready to strike again. There's just once where I feel the
music stalls just a bit too long. But maybe thats the
effect. Leave us expecting something, being
disappointed, and then when we turn to look away--
Wham! Dislocated jawbone.

Fun Stuff.

I'd vote all 9's, but the voting is disabled. Maybe with a few more listens I'll
vote 10's. We'll see...

Thanks for the support, pooster... it feels good... yeah, I think this one
ended up pretty cool, but I better enjoy the good comments when I can
get them, eh? I knew this one was going to alienate some people...

nice &mdash 01/19/05 - 06:01:11 PM
collection of noise but I would not call this music. As there
is no structure or melody. It like crapping on the sidewalk
and calling it art.

Many people wouldn't call this music (enter THE BIG CAN OF
WORMS), but I think I speak for Stun when I say "Their loss." You either get it
or you don't. We contemporary music fans aren't out to convert anyone.

p.s. if you want form and structure, check out the New Country
scene.
They've got that down to a science.

Oh, and speaking of crapping on the sidewalk, with New Country (and top 40)
they crap into these big presses, turn the handle and out comes star-shapped
crap. At least with crapping on the sidewalk, there's a modicum of honesty
and integrity.

My thoughts exactly, pooey! Star-shaped crap! I love it... my sides are
still aching from that one... although I do have to admit from time to
time I like some of that crap, too... did I say that? You didn't hear me
say that!

Oh, I have my guity pleasures as well. But you gotta sift through a lot of
shit to find a pearl. Or something like that.

don't push pooey too hard about the 'star-shaped crap'! otherwise, he'll write
a tune on how to make them.. "hello, and welcome to the instructions on
making wonderful star-shaped crap creations.. "

hilarious! &mdash 01/19/05 - 09:18:43 PM
Hey, loopy...your comment was hilarious! It reminded me of the time I
was in a basic design class in college. We were supposed to create a
form (or sculpture) which illustrated the concept of being static (or, the
opposite of movement). Anyway, this one girl in the class carefully
crafted a turd out of wood - no joke! I guess she spent a lot of time on
it. She was kind of joking, but kind of serious at the same time. That
pretty much sums up this tune, I guess... I actually spent over 10 hours
on this, believe it or not, tweaking and tweaking it to sound just right to
me...but all I ever intended it to be was well-constructed noise! (as a
result, that's why I labelled it as an Abstract/Experimental/FX piece)

ooh, i'm diggin this-completely fresh, unexpected sounds
& timing. anyone who has listened to this will now have it
subversively running thru their mind, chipping away a bit
at their conprehension of the 'norm'. the more i listen to
it, the more musical it seems to become.. of course, i
think you're weird & off your rocker, too!

almost a parody &mdash 01/22/05 - 11:51:51 AM
I think that this collection of sounds pretty much sums up
the noise that is often called music these daze. We live in
very noisy times, after all!

This sounds like a city street, walking behind a garbage
truck as it makes its rounds, emptying dumpsters. This
track is a reminder that just about any noise can be
perceived as "musical" in some way. (I'm not kidding,
actually.)

You've organized these sounds in an interesting,
entertaining way. Sometimes they were too distorted for
my headphones, but that's "real life" isn't it? I get the
same bombardment of sound walking down a city street.

Anyway, it's good that you're adventurous.

Chop it up! &mdash 01/25/05 - 08:26:04 AM
What if wars were faught by rapping? You know, no bullets, just rhymes and stolen music clips and scratched up records? They'd forget who was fighting who by the end, maybe forget it was a war... Oh, right, aside from the race thing. Chop it up again, man. Chop it up.

I understand what you're saying. This is a great track though. I'm slowly
attempting to work my way through your songs and had not gotten much
beyond the first few, so thanks for pointing this out to me.

Wicked tune. Damn. Full of aggression and nice sample shootin'. An artist called Enduser would be proud of this (and is actually making money with this sort of tunage). Awesome. Got to know this one through the player on the MJ homepage.
