Description
From Bud:
Cheers to all you girls and boys – the naughtier the better
I made this tune with Paddy Navin – a bloke who’s very clever
Played a bit of bass – and sang a backup here and there
Thanks to Andrew for the chance - to play this Christmas air

From Paddy:
We took a chance, we rewrote, we experimented.
Love it or hate it, this is dedicated to the memories of
two of the finest: Mark Linkous and Vic Chesnutt.
May they rest in peace having left behind treasures
for our ears.
Merry Christmas one and all.

Now for my comment!
This is in the true spirit of a challenge. Make the song your own and have it reflect the musical styles of both participants. I was digging it already then the electric guitar solo came chiming in. Cool take on a classic.

I believe Paddy is on the road
so I'll start the thank you thank you very much stuff. Really - it was a great challenge to be part of - and I couldn't have had a better partner to work with. What a great guy - and what a vocal.

Bethlehem
Methinks this was a total rewrite. Great job on this, vocal and backing. Psychedelic christmas song, reminiscent of pink floyd from the wall album! Enjoyed it.

Oh - I forgot to mention
the synthy droning bit floating around is courtesy of Crystal synth and Spectral dronemaker.
But the heart and soul of this piece is Paddy's incredible interpretation of this standard right from the start.
I too share in the tribute to Mark and Vic - I already miss them dearly.
Happy Holidays and peace to come.

O' Little Town
The name of the game in this year's Christmas Challenge seems to be "get as creatively away from the original as you can". You two have certainly done that. You've totally re-written this perennial classic and made a new song out of it. Reverent, believable, and up to date! How AWESOME! Congratulations.

Guys,
One of the most original takes on this song I have heard. Kind of reminds me of "I Shall Be Released" by Dylan.

excellent
love the just off kilter earnest vox and the core of doubt that runs through this, gives it a really honest vibe that reminds me of sufjan's christmas stuff. really well done.

Very enjoyable
as a totally unique rendition of a cherished carol. Bluegrass or folk but with a bit of added dash. Thanks.

This is
a wonderfully nostalgic song and it's one that John Lennon might have performed... just the way this has been performed. It's quite beautiful and I find the vocal very touching. Love the whole treatment; a great job by both of you. All the best to you and yours, regards M

Another favorite of mine. Super cool re-imagining. When I saw both names I was anticipating a Christmas stomper, but got surprised. Reverent and doubtful. Very cool.

Thanks to
the forum post, I listened to something I had missed. I had never heard such a fine reworking of a song into a different style. Rock and roll and contemporary electronic, but still a carol. Amazing vocal, Paddy and Kevin, on top of that superb backer. Thanks, guys.

I grew up in the 70's and 80's in the south of the UK in an Irish family. I had always loved music but was never given an opportunity to explore making it for myself. About 10 years ago I bought an acoustic guitar and began strumming in earnest. To d... [see more]
