Stephen - Vocals, Piano, Strings
Andrew Lack- Guitar, Bass, Production
Scott Fugate - Drums & Percussion
The song was written around 1997 by my good friend John Carlin and we both worked on the music to John's lyric sheet. It was always a slow simple song and I think we played it live a few times in our band and always liked the easy feel of it.
When looking for a new song of ours to update on Garageband, this was one I was looking forward to so that I could realise what I'd only heard in my head. Turns out my creation wasn't all I hoped it could be and I was pretty dissatisfied. I'd been hoping to work with Alackbass for the longest time and he kindly agreed to help shape this one into a better condition. Immediately I was impressed with Andrew's attention to detail and dedication to the cause. He is as many of you know a great mind of musical ideas and has a superb ear. For me, getting a good vocal track was a tough job as I just didn't seem to be able to do it to my satisfaction and as the production progressed, vocal takes came and went with amendments, improvements and arrangement changes till I got what you hear here. We quickly worked together trying out ideas and arrangements and it was Andrew's idea to get Scott in on drums and percussion. I'd not worked with Scott before either and he, like Andrew, was a real pleasure.

Lyrics
Laughing On Both Sides Of Your Face
I'm coming home on the next train, can't wait to see you all again
But I'll hardly know the old place and I heard that you've been doing me wrong
And you'll be laughing on both sides of your face
Momma told me on the phone today that the way you felt about me has changed
What did I do, what's your case? I never loved another while I was away
But you're laughing on both sides of your face
My eyes are open wide now. You kept it all inside now
I can't sleep these days since I heard that all this time you never ever cared now
Now I just want to leave this old place because it's lost anything special it ever had
And you're laughing on both sides of your face
My eyes are open wide now. You kept it all inside now
I'm coming home on the next train, felt good to see you all again
But I hardly knew the old place and the news about you has knocked me right down
And you're laughing on both sides of your face
I'm coming home on the next train, can't wait to see you all again
But I'll hardly know the old place and I heard that you've been doing me wrong
And you'll be laughing on both sides of your face

Thanks Stephen for asking me to join in on this one. As I told you early on I really dug the British Invasion vibe in this song. I also like how the sound of your voice brings to my mind the image of John Lennon chewing gum while singing All You Need is Love (so cool). You forgot to give yourself credit for the brass (a very cool part of the arrangement).
Scott,
It was a pleasure working with you on this one. You gave this the "human feel" it needed.
