I've been trying to improve this aspect of my recording lately! I have a Yamaha DGX-640 electric piano. I just bought it a few months ago and have been really happy with it so far. Lyrically speaking
Thank you for posting this song and for considering my feedback (or not!).

I liked the production and I like the positive attitude, but I personally find the lyrics in need of some touching up.

Generally speaking, lyrics should flow in a straightforward conversational manner. To me, the lyrics here don't quite pass that test.

The first line itself is not ... well ... very lyrical. But more than that, the lyrics come across (to me, anyhow) as "stuffy" or "stilted."

As for "conversational", it's not likely that one would say in conversation to another, "Two is more than none" (as one example). So what I'm suggesting is that the lyrics are maybe a bit too "poetic" as opposed to conversational. It's great to have poetic images in a song, but best if they can be worked into the song in a very conversational tone (I love to use the song "Live Like You Were Dying" as an example of this).

All of this, of course, is merely my opinion - please receive my feedback in that context (i.e. "one man's opinion").

Thank you for your comments. I was pleased to read that you thought the production was good, as this was an area I have been trying to improve. I think that there are different styles of lyrics, some are more conversational in and other more abstract. The genre of music often lends itself to one, the other or both styles. I agree that the lyrics in Trust would certainly not pass a test for being straightforward or conversational. The topic of the song would probably not be a common topic of conversation either. I do feel, though, that more abstract lyrics can be effective as well in music or literature. Abstract lyrics leave open spaces for personal interpretation or questioning. I feel that there is a value to that.

As for the lyrics coming across as 'stuffy' or 'stilted', of course, this is never a positive. The song came to me as almost to myself, a reminder, to help me through a time of change when I wasn't sure that I wanted change. In the end, I found the lyrics to be inspiring and this concept of trusting in what is to come, believing in some sort of order to this crazy universe (not religious) is something that I think of often.

Nice song - I love the how the wispy melody amicably fits with the inspirational lyrics - a sweet, melodious match-up.

I also like how you vary your singing approach from verse to verse, adding a subtle complexity to the vox.

The noodling piano solo works for me as a momentary, slightly-extended break from the lyrics - it feels as if you are living up to the message inherent in the verse, that if you trust in yourself, something good will emerge from the effort.

What you don't want to trust in (my opinion now on songwriting) is creating lyrics or songs by formula ... unless you want your stuff to sound like everyone else : )

The lyrics, melody and overall idea all seem to just 'come' somehow. Before I begin, the song feels complete. I think that trusting in what comes to us is the best way to sound just like yourself. This is very nice. You have a great singing voice. Your piano solo sounds cool. On a technical note, I found the extra noises coming from your microphone a bit distracting, especially starting around 2:30 till the end. The problem is, not being a singer or not having recorded vocals for the last umpteen years means I can't give you any real pointers on how to alleviate those sounds - I guess it could be as simple as not touching your mic while singing - who knows? Anyway, I enjoyed listening to your music and look forward to hearing more - thanks for sharing with us!

Thanks you very much for your comments. I am glad that you liked the song. I am going to look at the recording mix and try to re-record the vocals. I recorded this vocal track before buying a pop filter, a physical thing that you hold in front of the mic and sing through, which prevents 'pops' and other extra mic noises while you are singing (i.e. sound of breathing). I tried to re-record the vocals and can't seem to get the same timbre that I got on this first recording from long ago. I will have another look at the vocals and try to alleviate those sounds somehow. I agree that they are distracting from 2:30 until the end. Maybe I can try to re-record this part and leave the rest? Thanks again for the comments and take care!

	Trust Laura. I like your song. A nice melody with a very nice voice. You talked about getting a better sound. One thing that would help and I used to have the same problem, is a muddy sound. The best thing I have found is to reduce the bass on all the tracks except the bass and drums. This will help dramatically. Check out my latest song called JESSICA
