Description
[16-02]

A song inspired by a Marx Brother's film title which was released by RKO in 1938 -[I think]- probably my least favourite film of theirs.

Lyrics
Room service - written 2010 -2011

Hit the screens in 1938,
Some of us will love and some will hate,
RKO in stunning black and white,
Playing at the Monico tonight.

Room service, can I help you sir room service,
Room service can I call you up tonight,
Room service can I help you sir room service,
Make the bed, don’t turn out the light.

Caught inside frame of shaded light,
Movies made to take you through the night.
Picture poster colour pulls the eyes,
Promising it’s world beyond the skies.

Room service, can I help you sir room service,
Room service can I call you up tonight,
Room service can I help you sir room service,
Make the bed, don’t turn out the light.

Repeat.

hi john....trademark woofer territory. i'll come back and read the lyrics later. i'm loving how you tune into the era and reflect it in the sound you create.

Julian - thanks you,
It maybe my ancient equiptment that is responsible for the sound ! Still I'm contemplating getting a new pc soon as the one I have at the moment sings along with whatever I'm doing.

I really like the way you layer the vocals in an almost ELO way. Quirky, clever, fun, so well done. Do I even need to say it? Downloaded!

Hi Mark and thank you -
the little pizz strings intro was very much inspired by John Barry's orchestrations on some of the early Adam Faith records.

Love it - good steady beat to carry the well balanced harmonies and add some umph to the nostalgia! Really fun!

You bet your life!
This was awesome John---man what a great time I had listening to this, thank you! Yeah, "Room Service" sucked because it was the only Marx Bros. vehicle not written specifically for them. If RKO uses this song as the theme for the movie on any future DVD releases, I'm definitely positive it would boost sales very well! Thanks for the good work--loved it! Michael

thank you Michael
My son turned me onto the Marx Bros and in the end I really loved them, - for me I think Room service was lacking in the musical content which was so rich in many of their other films. It was almost operetta I felt sometimes.

Fun pop tune
Fun pop tune that has the requisite catchy hook in the chorus. Like the harmonies. Well done. Regards, Peter.

alackbass is right on. The vox and 'verb are right out of the ELO playbook. Fun and bouncy with a Kinks-esque vibe as well. But, still totally woofer. The bounce back 'verb on the plucked strings is killer.

Cracking good tune
not familiar with the piece of work by Groucho and Co so some of the references elude me but that's my fault ...the song is superbly put together and I love the sprinkles of instruments....I am picking up some very useful hints and tips just by listening to a lot of the music on here.Great job.

Hi Jarv
Thanks for visiting, as I said somewhere else Room Service wasn't their best film but I was given a box dvd set of their films for Christmas and decided to write a few songs using their titles,

John, I am intrigued by what made you think of this film in the first place and to then have it inspire a song, fascinating. I used to love the Marx Brothers.
Fantastically catchy chorus and (as others have said), great vocal and harmonies.
Enjoyed.
Cheers
Len

always good to hear from you, firstly thank you for listening and the lovely comments. I got the idea when I received a boxed set of Marx Brothers films this Christmas. I just thought that the titles would be good inspiration for songs. I have also written [in January] Horse Feathers, Duck Soup and Coconts though Duck Soup is at the moment still incomplete.

best wishes to you,

John.

So dang chirpy from the first millisecond I gotta just love it. This is no ipecac, I thoroughly devoured it. Much to love about a bouncy little get-in & get-out pop rocker. Thanks!

Hi Dick
Just my bi annual dig at human rights, - it's an awful thing to say but it somehow gives me a sense of satisfaction to see them continually getting it wrong. I love their stock phrase -'lessons have been learnt' - ha bloody ha , that will be the day.

You were
born out of time. Something like this, with the woofer choir would have brightened up a Broadway Musical in the 30's. Fun. Thanks.
