Richard 13:
“This Producer’s Challenge has been so much fun and a tremendous learning experience. The original producer assigned to me couldn’t participate after all.
At the last minute, Daug stepped in to help. Frankly, I was a little apprehensive (and, I suspect Daug might have preferred another artist himself). However, after a slow start, I was dragged kicking and screaming into the musical 21st century.
Although he (Daug) warned me at the start what he was about to do to with my tune, I really didn’t understand until he’d sent me about the fourth or fifth mix. In the meantime, I was sending track after track of stuff, not knowing if it would fit, or if the timing was right or the cadence off...
The Daug was extremely patient, only calling me a one name throughout the process ;) putting up with my recalcitrance, misunderstanding, ignorance, and more, in an effort to make “Daddy’s Little Girl” the best tune he knows how to make. Now you get to be the judge. Thanks for sticking, man. All kudos are yours.”
Daug:
Jack asked me to help Richard, he had no producer, I agreed to do so on the condition Jack renounce Sock Monkeys forever… lol. Richard had been in the Daug House (DH). I had experience with him. I listen to your tunes if you comment…
We tried to decide what to do. Richard 13, thinking the original overlooked at MJ, suggested DLG for the challenge. I chose the one at the top of the “suggested list” he had offered…
Richard had never “manipulated” a sample before we made “DLG” together. When he says he couldn’t understand what I was doing, believe him! He created amazing vocals for this project. He also crafted the kick sounds that put “step” into the new DLG.
Richard had liked a picture he’d seen on the net. He stuck it on the original composition. He named it, “Daddy’s Little Girl.” The song had no meaning to him beyond that he liked the sounds and the picture. As you listen during our walk through this character’s relationship with his daughter, I ask a question of you, as you listen… was the daughter ever in the hospital room? It is in Richard’s character not to tell us.
If what you hear added to the original DLG is interesting to your ear, and you want details, ask… I bare sole responsibly for the overall concept, the “Hush a Bye” and choir devices, harmony and production.
