Description

Another extremely enjoyable outing with grand mix-master bassist Andrew Lack and the ever reliable brush & snare guru Scott 'Fingers' Fugate. i'm on guitar, electric keyboard, vocals and a piano solo which i sent to lengold who then very kindly ran it through his East-West software. what a difference that made....thanks len.

I just turned on macjams and see a new post by Hackneybloke, and with the boys too, so I'm already psyched, then I hit play and there you are with that signature beautiful voice, and wow I am caught up in this song, just when I think you can't do any better each song continues to amaze me, you are such a talented guy, everything is right where it should be in the mixmaster Andrew's mix, Scott is such a class act here, your harmonies are also signature Hackneybloke, a wonderfully written song, mr. Sims knows how to write a hook, which without a great hook, why continue? And you my friend can write and deliver world class hooks, And to top it all off you play so well, is there anything you can't do? This song, Love into Which I fell, Hotel Life, 3 of my favorite songs in the world ever, I'm totally serious, Awesome song, but a great guy and a world class artist, and Andrew...wow! Scott..you are the man! Stellar collab!!!!!

Congratulations on another great song. Thanks for letting me tag along.

Truth be told, Julian did most of the mixing here. As we got close to completion he passed the GB file to me. I then tweaked the bass, drums, and adjusted a few other things per Julian's requests. I don't think that qualifies me as "mix master." He had this one damn well mixed prior to me doing anything.

Julian, your singing is so cathartic...smooth, natural, dynamic. You consistently write quality, memorable songs that emote feelings. This is no exception my friend, so great! Every time you pust up a song, I think "this is the PERFECT song". And then .... you do it again! But this IS the perfect song! This combo of your wonderful voice and splendid guitar and piano work (GREAT piano work!!) along with Scottie's percussion and Andrew's bass is just pretty much stunning! That E/W really shines! Congrats to all of you, and I hope there will be many more from this collab team. James Taylor has nothing on you Julian!

Ya know, I just came from the "Grammies" post, and I have to say that this has the right kind of appeal to be up for a nomination. Mainly, it's way BETTER than the current crop of nominees. Julian, the word that keeps coming to my mind as I listen is SMOOTH. This is just so smooth and mellow. Nice work on the keys. Nice, smooth harmonies, and some really smooth drumming by Scott. Andrew ties it all together quite smoothly, as only Andrew can. Julian this is a really cool and enjoyable listening experience, which is dl'd for more listening pleasure. Thank you for sharing!

I always like Andrews bass parts.
I listened to the song a couple of times so that I could say something meaningful, but I'm an American and it's difficult for me to do such a thing.

Anyway, the production is really great. It sounds like it could easily get radio time as is.

Wow, this is a great sculpture, all the non-essentials are chiseled-away, and what's left is pure.

Vocals are so smooth, perfect for the lyrics. Mose Allison? Nope: Julian Sims. And not sure if you would remember John Mayall's ground-breaking old Turning Point album, but this is almost an antidote to the smooth but dark tune he did, "California." Just much sunnier.

Andrew, Fanger, you guys are great as always, too.

Lovely
60s smooth ballady mix, combined with a kinda "Moondance" meets "Boy from Ipanema" = Success.
Instrumentation is great.. fabulous "flighty" piano solo .. sits perfect in the very well arranged song. Excellent harmonies too. Not a kinda of style I would have expected from you Julian but a very pleasant surprise I must say.. suits you... nice Simon & Garfunkel style ending too.

i find it so great that there's so many great collabs here on macjams. it let's you expercience what music can give to you when you're ready to work with other people. you can learn so much from collaborating with someone.

to the song: in the beginning i thought "whew that's a lot of bass" but when all the other elements come alive it is ok to me - though i would reduce the bass at about 200Hz at a Q of 0.3-0.5 or so by 1.5dB then it would be fine!
i love the mood of the song it makes you like lift cause it sounds so warm all the way through.
the vocals are terriffic!
loved it!
and i find myself humming the melody over and over haha catchy!

I am reminded of...
...The Girl From Ipanema...I think it's the super mellow rendition of this lovely song that brought that to mind. Every element is soooo smoothe, from the superb vocal performance to your great rhythm section that backs up the whole performance with taste and style. ... Someone commented on the strong bass — I think it works perfectly against everything else you have going on. ... If you don't mind one small criticism: check out the vocal harmony about 30 sec. before the end when it comes in. I'm hearing some pitch/tuning issue in the vocal. Other than that, this is one heck of a great number. Congratulations.
