Description
Song of Broken Promises was written by the davisamericas long long ago as we were still exploring the endless possibilities with music. It started out as a guitar concerto for four hands, but quickly took to new directions as we came against some problems with that. Jack switched over to the keyboard, and it took flight from there. (And now the truth.)
Song of Broken Promises is another from Jack’s and my archives that hasn’t seen daylight for many years, and this is the beauty of MacJams and it’s wonderful reservoir of talent. Our friends here have brought it back to life. Andy, Maureen, Roxy, Joseph and Victor have donated their creative energies to present our song, and I really love what they have done for it. Roxy lends her beautiful voice to help me sing it. Victor fed my fantasy with his flute and added a bonus with the drums. Joe plays a warm and perfect bass, and Andy and Maureen sweetened it with their mandolin and guitars. Jack is on the vibes, a new sound to bring it into the 21st century. Thanks all you guys for your contributions. Hope everyone enjoys it. Terry

Song of Broken Promises
She watched me through a windowpane on a cold November eve
The Hunters Moon was on my back as I took my leave
I stopped and turned to see her there in the lantern’s light
I felt a blessing, then slipped into the shadows of the night
Down by the river when we were younger
We both promised each other we would always be together
Beneath the moon the hounds will bay, but the moon will never hear
And it never heard that promise we made with hearts that were so pure
That night I looked into her eyes and made this sacred vow
“I will be with you until I die; nothing else will my heart allow!”
Down by the river when we were younger
We both promised each other we would always be together
The swaddling bands of our innocence and a veiled reality
Tricked us into a penitence for what our hearts truly believed
We broke that sacred promise, and we left it there on the path
But unless you’ve reached your journey’s end, there’s no point in looking back
Down by the river when we were younger
We both promised each other we would always be together
She watched me through a windowpane on a cold November eve
The Hunters Moon was on my back as I took my leave
I stopped and turned to see her there in the lantern’s light
I felt a blessing, then slipped into the shadows of the night
Down by the river when we were younger
We both promised each other we would always be together
Beneath the moon the hounds will bay, but the moon will never hear
And it never heard that promise we made with hearts that were so pure

Tricked us into a penitence for what our hearts truly believed
We broke that sacred promise, and we left it there on the path
But unless you’ve reached your journey’s end, there’s no point in looking back
Down by the river when we were younger
We both promised each other we would always be together
