Description
Getting tangled up in cables and wires, dealing with guitars that are constantly going out of tune, it's making me wonder why I still keep this up.

Someone mentioned music as a hobby of mine the other day and it made me feel kind of bummed out. I thought collecting stamps was a hobby? Go figure.

I've recently recorded about 12 songs. 8 are cool, 2 are fixable, and 2 suck horse radish. But, I'll deal with that later. I think that'll be it for this year having less and less time, or I should say patience, to record stuff. I hope to do more, although. I loved getting stared this year doing a couple of covers by Dark Planet and davisamerica 2.

Maybe it's the endless winter here, but I've been getting to the "what's the point" area again.

Lyrics
We Will Have a Good Time

Will you ever know me?
Be my friend
Well, it’s been a long time now
Stuck inside the walls of illusion, she cries
Lost it in the depths of confusion, she tries
To see my rage, to open my cage
Well, it’s been a long day now
Just get to the heart of the matter, she moans
Let’s get our baggage together and roam
Around the world, around the world
We will have a good time
(I’m on fire / we will have fun, again, and again)

We Will Have a Good Time
I used to get bummed out over the thought of "music as a hobby." Then I realized how freeing that was. I can do it for fun and the personal growth without concern for professional pressures. That's when I embraced music as my hobby. Freedom is a great thing.

Love that 60s vibe you create!

let the good times roll
12 tunes in the can? man you are set for a while.

boy, i sure like the feel of this song Dave. classic L.L. sound. but sure has some trippin' passages. i like how the clean electric works through out this.

at times i feel the same way you do.......i think you stick with it the same way i do. because it's there

12 in the can, but only 1 has been mixed! Now comes the work.

I'll probably stick with it Vic.

Acoustic coolness
Nice spacey cool stuff goin' on here.

Speaking of dealing with guitars that are out of tune. It pisses me off because the G string on my PRS isn't perfectly intonated. So I have to purchase this special bridge so that the intonation can be set. You'd think that a PRS would have a better bridge setup stock on their axes for crying out loud! I feel your pain.

They also don't understand that what we do is an expression of ourselves and our passion, not just a simple hobby.

Cool jam man!

Tangled up
Twelve tracks sounds like a lot to me, and it's no wonder that you're feeling a little played out.

Point is, your music is enjoyed! Takes you somewhere, and we go along for the ride, too.

'Hobby' sounds like some sort of saddo garden shed time-killer, and music is never 'just a hobby'. It is the stuff of life, and more than life. Making money from it and being restricted thereby is a tragedy, as Alackbass said.

Keep the faith!

Marc

Recording binge
That's the only way I like to do it. I've already written a hundred songs I have yet to record. So, that's not the problem. Time, and peaceful time, is what I need.

Thanks

Agree

I wouldn't want to be a pro nowadays, with rock suffering a bit out there in popularity. Maybe it's because we're all here. lol

But for you,
this song wouldn't be here. Creating is a privilege. And, if you have some talent for it, it is also a responsibility. So, keep on because you have to and know that your effort is appreciated and enjoyed. Thanks for this.

I know
all about guitars that go out of tune David it's been the bane of my life, though they sound quite in tune in this song of yours. Nice production and performance all round and quite calming, even though the gist of the lyrics is about frustration. The feel is quite retro to about the 60's I think, regards M

The 60's
Wasn't born yet. But, maybe someone died and came back as lavalamp.

Thanks a bunch. My cheap $99 Yamaha acoustic guitar I got when I was 16 ALWAYS stays in tune btw. Go figure? The other more expensive guitars, not so good :(

well the point is ....
to feel "inspired" and when you don't ... go play in the sun and wait on it ..... BTW I never follow my own advice but seems the muse comes as it wants. Hang in LL ... you got tons more. ..... as someone who follows u closely I know this is true. This track proves it. You have a definite style and it always sounds "fresh" .... a mark of an artist. Really like this one man...going to the LL download file ...now.

After the band days, I continued to write songs although NO ONE would ever hear them. I wrote tons of songs between 27-34 years old. I managed to keep track of these tunes in song books. I gives me an everlasting source of music and now I can record these and get them heard. That I'm pleased about. About three quarters of my stuff come from the song books, but I do manage to write and rewrite tunes. So, no lack of inspiration here.

I'll keep it up for the 20 of you who dig my tunes.

Thanks for the support brother.

We Will Have a Good Time
This has a 60's vibe for me. Some nice changes, well played and sung. I think it's cool to have a hobby that is also a passion, and at least a little time in which to pursue it. Anything else that comes from is just the icing on an already satisfying cake.

On exchange for an endless summer?
Hi Dave. Does sound like your endless winter is getting to you but don't give in to it. I'd like to think that, for most of us, music is categorized as more that just a hobby. It is more like a vital component of life. Anyway, nice 60's vibe song that sneaks up on you after a couple of listens. Keep it up. Regards, Peter

sounds like you'd get a rash.

the point is the point dude. don't get lost in the details.

this one wants to be happy but can't seem to drag itself out of melancholy, and the tension works. I think the vocals could come up in the mix (and I never say that lol). i like the a Capella ending.

Bummed Out
What's the point?

Just keep doing what you do Dave and we'll let you know when you're irrelevant and stupid. In fact, we'll ask you to stop. That's what your friends are for. Don't listen to those "fleshy" people, because they don't know you like we do.

This kinda has a Donovan vibe to it in the chorus. I dig the strumming guitar sound with the little plunky melody behind it and your ever so ringo drum beats. After Vic Holman, you're the second best drummer on this site.

You sound like a California boy trapped in a german winter, void of sunshine. I think it's time to take the family south to Spain or something. Bring sunblock and your six string.

D/L'd like the 10 people before me
