Description
This is a song that I wrote a long time ago - probably 15 or more years. i've recorded a number of versions but this is very much cut back to just a finger picked acoustic guitar on one track and vocal on the other. I hope you like it. it is one of my most heartfelt songs.

Lyrics
SECRET LIFE GRAHAME HICKS

You ask me if I’d like you to come into my Secret Life
I say that I don’t mind but I don’t know if you can
But I know that I would rather die
Than live the rest of my life without you

You say that I can stay the way I am you don’t want me to change
I say that’s just as well I’ve too much baggage I can’t rearrange
And you and I are products of the different pasts that we’ve been through
The different paths that led me to you

You say that I must stay the way I am I must never change
But life moulds minds and it’s unlikely mine and yours will stay the same
The paths first merge Love is sweet but later they diverge

The gate is open you can catch a glimpse of my Secret Life
The fruit looks sweet but if you taste too much of it then you may die
A fountain plays into a crystal pool the mirror shattered
Is just a reflection of my mind

Secret Life
Haunting music, very heartfelt song, I like this stripped down version but definitely got legs to be brought on in the future.

Thanks Neil
Nice comment. Maybe there's a collab around here somewhere to pull together a definitive version?

Really good
recording Grahame.... guitar sounds lovely with good progression of chords.....and your vocals have just the right amount of emotion to suit these nice lyrics; as you said 'heartfelt' and it shows.... lovely clarity.... enjoyed, regards M

Thanks
Thanks so much for the kind comments. I bought the guitar in 1973 and it is still holding up. In fact the tone seems to improve as it ages.

Haunting Indeed!
I like the vibe you've captured here Grahame. Vocals compliment and help set the mood. Add some reverb and I think you've got a Greg Lake type sound form "Still You Turn Me On"
Good submission!

Hi Jody
Thanks for the kind comments. Greg Lake! My, my. What an awesome comparison. Might give the reverb a try.

Introspective...
Hi Grahame. Introspective lyrics are well served by the understated vocals and the sparse guitar accompaniment. Just what the 2-track challenge was calling for. Congratulations. Warm regards, Peter

Solid song a fine performance
nice balance - did you record separately? Did you use a click at all if you played the guitar first? Songs this stripped bare are hard to pull off - and you did a fine job.

Thanks Bud
I recorded each track seperately. I "cheated" by recording each chord arpeggio individually a number of times(on one track) and then cutting and pasting the best arpeggios into one whole track together. EQ'd it and then recorded over the arpeggios with my voice. So it is alll done on two tracks. I'mm glad you liked it.

Hi jd
Thanks for the kind comment. I might stick to two tracks for a while in the hope of improving production, adding extra tracks as the production improves.

I'm pleased you like it. It's strange how some chord changes just are. Just organic.

There is a
dichotomy here, because this song could work just as well as a power ballad as well as the version you have laid down here........I could hear some Moody Blues like treatment....but then again I have the sensitivity of a cracked boulder.....

Nice one ,welcome along to the lunatic fringe.
