Description

The Entertainer is probably one of the most recognised pieces of music ever to appear in a film. It was written in 1911 by Scott Joplin and featured in The Sting!

This has been covered many times, and fortunately falls in the public domain. My favourite version has to be Chet Atkins awesome fingerstyle arrangement.

This is my version. It is not the same as Chets and comparisons are totally futile, however I hope you all enjoy it....

	Peter!! Without a doubt Chet Atkins is the joint best guitar player of this style along with Jerry Reed of all time in my humble opinion(Make what sense of that you like!!!). This is an Easy Winner...
...if I may borrow another title from Mr. Joplin Neil!
This was some delightful playing and the arrangement is thoroughly refreshing and "new" sounding (and I should know because I was about ten when the movie came out and this was all they asked me to play on the piano for shows at school and stuff--I got to hate the thing almost! This did lead me in later years to explore his other compositions and I still love playing them to this day). I also think Mr. Joplin would applaud you for keeping the tempo moderato (I heard he would go into violent fits when he heard his rags being played very fast!) Very happy to have heard your version--and thank you for remembering this great piece of American music. Take care now! Michael

	Nice! Very hard style to master. I used to be able to do a bit of fingerpicking but can't anymore, arthritis in my right hand means I can only use a pick these days. (Haven't found an upside to getting old yet, but haven't given up hope!) 	Hi Neil! It's a great melody, isn't it? There is something about the jaunty, sadness of the piece that seems to fit every occasion and changes so much with the smallest change of tempo. I have messed about with the phrasing a little to try and give it my own spin and if that means its a little bluesy then so be it!! 	The Entertainer I haven't heard any versions other than the theatrical one, so I have no basis for comparison. What a treat to hear this on guitar. Your version has a tinge of melancholy to it which I feel gives the piece some depth that the theatrical version lacked. Your playing is very good, which of course helps a lot.
