Description
Written in 1976 - but sort of makes more sense now than then. Key is B - played with open G tuning with capo on the fourth fret. First guitar track on s steel strung Fender acoustic/electric (played acoustically). Other two tracks are on a Gibson nylon strung to soften the sound. One vocal track and that's it! Might add bass later?

Lyrics
It's quiet and a record plays
Another's songs
Of all that they have done
And hopes that they have won
And times they want to come
They're in the song

Evening and the days wants rest
From all its trials
And I have seen some more
Of all we're living for
As you opened up my door
I see you come

And softly in the colours
Of a memory
That sings about the sea
That sings of you and me
That tries to set us free
I see it come

It's quiet and I softly play
Another song
Of all that we have done
Of hopes that we have won
Of times we want to come
It tells me soft but clear
My song is not yet sung.

Impressive
Hi Philip. Another impressive song to add to your MJ debut. Your vocal style suits the contemplative nature of the quality lyrics. The guitar work complements things nicely too. Possibly the vocals might have benefitted from being just a tad more prominent in the mix and a bridge might have added some extra interest. Much enjoyed. Warm regards, Peter.

Thanks
Thanks, Peter. Interesting idea about a bridge. I think the open tuning can give a bit of a droning effect, and a bridge may help offset that by adding variety. Not so sure about the more prominent vocals - I actually took them back a bit in the mix - I thought them too far forward! Might be a bit of personal taste in that one...

hi philip. what a lovely mix of little noodles round the central theme. your vocals are excellent; really intimate and atmospheric. your delivery is the best thing about this - you are so laid back and easy. fantastic stuff.

Great tune
I really like the mood of the song, the intimacy.
It`s well played, the open tuning sounds wonderful and I think you SHOULD add some bass, maybe after a long intro including the first verse?? :o)
How about adding some background vox?

Again, it`s a wonderful song!!

Welcome to MJ!! :oD

Additions
Thanks for the comments - I appreciate such thoughtful listening.

I agree with you! At this stage, I was happy just to get the basics down - I'm still getting used to Garageband and how it all works. The idea of adding bass after the first verse is interesting - I like the idea of building things through the song.

What did you have in mind for the background vox?

Great
you have a charming voice and the guitar work is also very easy to listen to. Enjoyed. (Watch out for distortion in the vocal mic.)

Thanks for the comments - much appreciated. I will need to watch the level in the vocal mike. I like the level up high for the softer parts (a whisper can get inside your head) but it does mean I have to watch the louder parts. Just practice, I guess.

Hi Philip
I'm still downloading your songs and I thank you for it.
Only thing is, you've stopped me writing. I don't mind though, for such a lovely song.
Very well done my friend!

Downloading
You'll find they vary a bit, my friend! The early ones (like this one) were recorded using a lesser quality microphone that didn't capture all the tones of the acoustic guitars that my new mike does, and to my ears the guitars (especially the steel string) sound a bit dull now. But I'm very pleased that you think my songs are worth downloading. Now get back to writing!
