Description
So I've been running into a mental block with some of my tunes. I might post a few over the next few days as open collaborations. Here's one I've been working on as an afrobeat style song.

I think what's bothering me about this tune is the overwhelming amount of guitars and repetition. I have a hard time with melody sometimes and this is one of those times. I think an old clavinet or a few horns playing a melody would make this better. Anyways if you want to try your hand at it, or if you would like a piece of the tune to play with for your own loops, or even the song without the 'lead' guitar part in it to noodle with, get in contact with me as I'd like to see this one go somewhere.

Song Info: Drums: afrobet loop from FutureMusic Mag., Guitars: Fender Telecaster, Bass: Fender Jazz Bass, recorded thru a seymour duncan twin-tube classic as a pre-amp to warm things up a bit. Other FX straight from GB.

I should mention if you last past about 2 minutes there is a change in sound, just in case you can't stand the repetition.

Yeah!
I could hear the Tele from a mile away! Real nice kind of reminds me of Kanda Bongo Man, one of my African music faves! Great job!

cool
this is really good. I would actually go in a Bowie/Talking Heads direction with this one. nice effects after the drum break. Very cool.

Remain the funk
Def hear some T heads workout happening. I know what it's like to get to this point on a tune. That's when I call Andy the sax man - or my buddies in APOD. M2 - just tipped me to this as a matter of fact.

Well, yeah...
It could be Afrobeat, or Talking Heads, or Adrian Belew driven King Crimson... I can hear a lot of Meters in it...

And it TOTALLY wants to be a song... It's really great... Hard to listen without dancing, and why would you want to?

The last guitarist whose style i tried to learn was Leo Nocentelli. I always seem to take on the style of whomever I'm listening to at the moment, so I'm not surprised you heard some Meters.

Wow - very good sounds
I think you are on to something here - hope it develops! Very Heads/Krimson like in places. I like the transitions and the flange portion works very well.

I'm from Montana. My grandparents on my mother's side were prolific musicians, but I suspect everyone needed something to do in the early 1900's before TV. I inherited their natural genetic talent, but was too distracted by video games and MTV to mak... [see more]
