Why Can' t You See What You're Doin' To Me

Description
Since I've been unable to get any new songs done here lately, I thought I'd bring back a song that Brian Scott and I did when we worked as a duet called Scott & Walker back in 1993 and 1994. This is a recoding done in the old analog studio I had back then when I lived out in Oregon in 1992 prior to our forming Scott & Walker.

Brian was a very talented singer and piano player I met when he was still in High School and he wanted me to help him record some of his songs for his senior project. While he had the beginnings of songs, they really weren't finished as far as writing was concerned, so I took him under my wings and helped him rewrite his songs until we had what I thought were finished material.

We worked very well together and after he graduated, with honors do to the recordings we made, we teamed up and started Scott & Walker.

The reason I have Logic Express listed as the software used is because I brought the finished recording from back in 1992 back into Logic and tried to master them. I hope you enjoy listening to Brian Scott singing "Why Can' t You See What You're Doin' To Me" as produced way back then.

Verse 1
I remember all those days, you wanted me to know.
Things like how you'd never leave me, Loved me so.
Now that, that's all changed, our love's at the end of the line
You wanna go our separate ways. Nows the time

Chorus
Rememberin' the way you used to touch me
You gave me that type of love, Wild and free
Then you lock away my love, and throw away the key.
Why can't you see what you're doin' to me, --- Baby
Why can't you see what you're doin' to me.

Verse 2
Do you remember in out past, the things we used to do,
Then we gathered all of them, Find someone new.
Living here without you, is not how it's supposed to be.
Told me our love would last forever, Lie to me

Chorus
Rememberin' the way you used to touch me
You gave me that type of love, Wild and free
Then you lock away my love, and throw away the key.
Why can't you see what you're doin' to me, --- Baby
Why can't you see what you're doin' to me.

Instrumental Verse

Chorus
Rememberin' the way you used to touch me
You gave me that type of love, Wild and free
Then you lock away my love, and throw away the key.
Why can't you see what you're doin' to me, --- Baby
Why can't you see what you're doin' to me.

Well that kicked my ass! I wasn't expecting such kicking guitar from the outset and it woke me up! Great rollicking that pushes along rightly with more than a fair amount of attitude, Ed!Great shout, even if it's an oldie for you, it's a newie for me. Loved it! Thanks for sharing it. Insta-DL!

Brian was a very talented singer and knew how to belt one out. He always said his hero was Elvis and because of that he kind of sang in that style. It was a fun song to do live at gigs because it always got the crowd up and dancing.

Glad you enjoyed the track, Jack. Thanks again for listening and the kind words,

Hello old friend
Thanks for listening Feter, and for the kind words. This was done back in the days when I could still play this kind of uptempo lead licks. I'm afraid those days are gone now though.

Thanks again Feter

I was thinking,
of slowing it down a little, say maybe to around 108 bpm instead of the 120bpm it's at right now. What do you think, is it a good idea or no.

Thanks for the suggestion and the comment

Thank you Dave
I did this one back when I could still play the guitar. Lately though, my playing chops have really deteriorated but I still like having a go at it every once in a while.

Brian, the singer, was very talented in the singing department and could also play the piano well. the rest of the tracks were either programmed on the Yamaha SY-99 keyboard, or I played them on the guitar.

The song writing was a collab between Brian and I. Glad you enjoyed the song Dave. Thanks again for the kind words,

Hello Terry
As a matter of fact I think I still have one more song in the archives that Brian and I did together and I may post it at some time in the future. We really did work well together as a duet, and if circumstances had been different I think we could have made a pretty big splash in the Portland music scene, and maybe beyond. But alas, coulda - shoulda - woulda !

Glad you liked the song Terry. Thanks for listening and the kind words my friend, they are appreciated.

See you soon I hope

Brian could have been a major talent as a singer, but he was so young at the time I could never get him to really focus on the things he needed to learn to be successful in the business. My hope is that once we went our separate way he matured and knuckled down. It would have ben nice to know he finally made it in the business, Lord knows he had the talent.

Thanks again for listening and for the kind words on the song John, it is appreciated.

I like Honky-Tonkin'
just in case you didn't notice. We had a ball putting this together in the old analog studio. Recording quality is pretty good for a 1/2" reel to reel 8 track, but back then I had some pretty good mics & outboard processing gear to work with which helped a lot.

Young Brian was a hell of a singer and had good sensibilities about song writing. What he lacked was focus and clarity in the lyrics, which is where I came in. Together I think we made a good team.
Glad you enjoyed going Honky-Tonkin' with us Doug. Thanks for the kind words my friend.

That guitar is really a rare one to be sure. Takamine only made the solid body electrics for about 3 years, and then went back to just making acoustic, & acoustic/electrics. I bought the guitar in 1984 at a local music store here in Fort Smith, AR because it played and sounded so good, and it was very versatile. The guitar has 2 humbuckers on it and yet it can still sound like a Tele, which is very cool.

Glad you likes the song Alec. Thanks for listening and the kind words my friend, it is appreciated,

That guitar work was done back when I still had some chops, but time and lack of use have diminished my chops a lot in the last nearly 20 years. As for the studio Chops, I had a pretty decent analog system back then and it made it easier to get good recordings and mixes. Mind you, I've learned a lot since moving into the digital domain, but a lot of my prior experience in the analog world came right over to the new way of doing things.

Thanks fort coming by to listen and the great comments Bob.

Really glad you enjoyed this song, Chris. It is an oldie but a goodie for sure. As a said, it was recorded back in my old analog studio in 1992, before I had all this new fangled digital software and computers and stuff. Thanks for listening, and for the great comments my friend, it is appreciated. Hope to catch up with you on Skype one of these days, but no luck so far.

Like the
Smokey and the Bandit feel to this, sexy pick indeed!
Nice singing, beats and guitar and the list goes on. Love the story in description as well. Stories like that are so important, not enough is done in regards to that, even in album cover amongst the pros that make the big bucks. The more we do that both in music, lyrics etc. That will be the power of the independent music sites I think. Kind of anyways! Way to Go Ed.

Music from an earlier time
when life was simpler and so was the music. This was a lot of fun to put together as you might have guessed. Brian was a very talented natural singer, so making a song sound good was easy with him doing the singing.

Really glad you got to hear this blast from the past. Brian was a very talented natural singer back then and knew how to deliver a song to maximum effect. The rest is mostly me doing what I did best back when I still could, and trying to capture that on the old 8 Track reel recorder I was using at the time.
