bill this is fantastic. your guitar is so sweet and accomplished. i wish i could get half of the sound and finger dexterity that you seem to achieve so effortlessly.

Beautiful tune...
...beautifully played. So relaxed and lazy feeling - makes me want to chill-out in the glorious weather we're having just now (instead I have to work - bah!)

Indios Tabajaras
Wow, Bill, thanks for playing this exquisite Indios Tabajaras gem from my youth, and thanks for doing such a tasteful job with it. The song was already 31 years old when Los Indios recorded it in 1963, but I will always associate this tune with them. You do a great job with it, as usual!

almost from another world
close your eyes and you're transported to a serene, carefree place where the sun smiles, and the wind plays with anything that is light enough to brush off gravity, even for a moment.
Sounds so effortless when you play the guitar...

A treat...
Hi Bill. Lovely guitar tone and fantastic technique. The sparse accompaniment worked a treat as well. The recording is crisp and so well balanced. Congratulations. Regards, Peter.

You're an answer to a prayer...
...well, that's one line from the lyrics of this song and it definitely fits the bill, Bill (no pun intended!) You are at the top of your form on this--just exquisite and marvelous to listen to--your fingers move so adroitly and with such delicacy and skill that I think I may be listening to this at least 42 times this week on my mp3 player (conservative estimate Bill!) Incidentally, this song first became popular in the US during the ASCAP strike in the 1940s. The only music that could be performed for profit were public domain or songs written in other countries (such as this one). This song was a big hit for bandleader Jimmy Dorsey and vocalist Bob Eberly (whom I met twice when I was a baby!) Again, superlatives for an especially excellent job here! Take care now, Michael

Ya
My dad was in the big bands during the Tommy Dorsey era. When i was young he would play the sax around the house. I would play rhythm guitar to Maria Elena many times with him.

Thanks so much for the nice comment michael! I really appreciate it!

One of my al time favorite pieces of music
The first time I heard this song it was the version done by Los Indios Tabajaras from 1962. I fell in love with the song and Los Indios Tabajaras just on the strength of that recording.

I'm so glad the you stayed true to the kind of sound they had, and in fact you did a wonderful job of capturing that sound, without actually duplicating their work. This is a most excellent recording and performance. My hat is off to you for this beautiful performance Bill.

Bravo Maestro it is wonderful

Timeless Classic
Beautiful job on this lovely old tune, Bill. Like Clark, I remember this as a hit record by Los Indios Tabajaras. You've done a great job of elegantly performing this tune.

Nice job, Bill. ;)

Double Stop Paradise
That a boy Bill! I knew if I couldn't figure it out it would be a piece of cake for you. Or did you find some sheet music? Anyway it is a perfect reproduction of the original. That is a nylon string guitar you are playing right? One you own or one you borrowed? Great sound. I think what makes you stand out from so many guitarists is your tone and cleaness of playing. I don't think I have ever heard you play a bad note. Or maybe you just don't post them like Mr. One Take Sloppy here.

Thanks Tom
Ya, it is a combination, I did a lot of experimentation trying so many things. At one point I felt giving up on it because I was not clicking with it. I tried too much improvisation and it didn't do much for the tune. Then I tried a bunch of different instruments such as flute, cello and the likes and that was not happening, took out the flavor of how indios did it. So I tried to get closer to the original but maybe putting a bit of my own influences etc.

soft and delicious
Just the way I like it... tasteful and elegant guitar work. Unfortunately, you have your own bar raised so high Bill, that this kind of perfection is ALWAYS what I expect from you, but then you ALWAYS deliver it, so I am happy! :-) Great mix, the low notes resonate like chocolate.

One of
my all time favourites.... it was a hit over here in the UK in the late 50's early 60's (can't remember which) and was in the top twenty for many weeks..... as always Bill you give a beautiful rendition of this romance filled melody.... love it, regards M

Los Indios Tabajaras
I had a whole album by those guys when I was young. Very nicely done Bill - your guitar playing is so fluid and beautifully played. I wasn't crazy about the bass (midi?) - I'd probably prefer to hear it without - or else with someone playing real acoustic bass. Not sure if anyone here at MJ does that though.
Overall though just beautifully played.
Cheers from Oz,
Neil
