Lyrics
[ showroom ]

it's friday night at the local bar, they're drunk and happy and all
a band is playing tunes, the light is cold and blue
depression took a nasty toll, on both their poor little souls
now, they're dancing away, and singing to the songs

showroom dummies (they are showroom dummies), showroom dummies can't complain (can't complain)

the scene is hot and wired, pretty boys and pretty girls
sex is a cloud around them, we all know where a kiss can turn
smoking and drinking, smoking and a kiss
smoking and dancing, rock 'n' roll is it

Very Funky
Cool horns. I really like the mix on this song. Won't get
too deep here but this is a very neat song. Wicked sounds
on the instrumental part!

This is awesome.
Won't get too deep here either (because I don't know what the heck I'm talkin' about, anyway), but this song is just awesome. I'll have to definitely check some of your other stuff.

smoking and...
You've got some interesting sound combos going here;
the brass is a nice touch, and the beat is driving.

The lyrics are good. Your voice sound like its at the very
bottom of your range, except when you sing the chorus
(which seems to lie more comfortably for you, which
sounds more natural, and therefore better to me).

I would have liked to hear a little more variety in the
accompaniment, change the brass riffs occasionally. They
grew kind of relentless. Same for the drums at times.

The most interesting part came in the latter half of the
song with the synth solo, and then again at the end with
your excellent guitar playing. I would have liked to hear
more guitar riffs like that throughout the song!

Overall, good production values and conception on this.

Nice 6/8 groove
I dig the feel and lyrics on this. Entertaining, true, and
hip. Personal preference is I would have liked you to sing
the verses too. And to create a difference in the horn part
from verse to verse, to add energy. I like the way you
sound on the chorus, the vocal backing used like an
instrument section, and the happy feel of the groove
compared to the vocal style, kind of Zappa. But I really like
the layered Moog lead sound in the solo and thought you
could have used that idea to good effect throughout, to
help lift the sampled horn section that has a tendency to
become kind of flat and lifeless. Very cool and clever
track, however.

Thank you all!
Well, to begin, my musical journey are taking a few new
routes. Partially because of my mood, but also because of
new instruments, mainly a real microphone and an audio
interface. I like the horns too, even though they are
synthesized horns they does sound almost real (I am sure
any real horn player would not agree). There is a few
layers of guitars mixed into the song, I think these are
what makes it "think". I've also experimented with the
vocals - and there are a few different layers of them as
well. All the vocals are mine - I have to think about the
verse a bit, maybe it is too low for my voice? Tobin, did
you not think it was me singing on the verse? :)

cool
I like the style you put into this. It's a great tune. I think I'd like to hear it build more. It gets a lttle repetative, staying at kind of the same level from begining to end. Maybe it could use some backup vocals, a sexy trio of sistahs.

Sing it out
I vote for singing throughout, if there is a tally going on. Much prefer a song being sung.

a different take...
...on the Kraftwerk tune? Is this influenced by that
tune at all? This could be the sequel to that song.
Actually it sounds completely different. Just the
subject matter is similar. I really dig this song. Very
enjoyable.
