Description
Surprise James! Hope work is going OK!

James posted this a while back with an invitation to add to it - I was onto it pretty fast, but ended up getting bogged down in the lead instrumentation and left it for a while. Meantime Scotty Johnson did a version which came up really nicely with keys and bass.

This is such a cool little song, and James sings and plays so well on it that it was pretty easy to come up with drum, bass and (later) slide parts that complimented his relatively blank (but inspiring) canvas.

James' original is here: http://www.macjams.com/song/67047

Scotty's version is here: http://www.macjams.com/song/67662

Drums are midi, played in on my Yamaha keyboard. Bass is my trusty Fender Precision, and the slide is my Tele.

James, thanks for the opportunity to play on this - I'm getting back to writing and recording after a long lay-off, and I'm hoping to have something of my own up in the next week or two.

Cheers,
Neil

wow...
Rock in its most enticing form. Great vocals and quite an energizing yet romantic melodic flow and ryhthm. The music is increasingly interesting in its evolution.

Very cool additions Neil
I love the slide man, that is just too cool. Drums and bass fit perfectly and do indeed fill the song up and make it whole. James' original was very cool to begin with, but you additions are just awesome.

Bravo ny friend, I love what you did.

Great additions to an already cool song! Every since James first posted this I had been wanting to hear it with simple in the pocket bass and drums! Nice slide playing. Echos of George Harrison!

Welcome back
Hope you are doing well.

This turned out nice Neil; I dig the way you left it "blank" at the intro - fitting! Bass and slide work is nice.

Neil!
Such an honor to have you work on this song, and to hear this 3rd version after Scotty's cool take really makes my day once again, today is the last 12 hour day at work of like 40 something in a row, and what a way to come back to macjams! I hope you are feeling better friend and I'm so happy to see you post this, the slide guitar was such a cool idea, the bass is right in the pocket and great work on the drums, excellent mix! Thank you Neil! I really needed a lift today and this was just the ticket!!!

Splash that canvas
Katy'll love this, so will James... Katy provided the inspiration, James seems to have written and sung a great song, but Neil, you really filled this in nicely, loved the pauses and swells, super slide work in just the right spots... very tasteful additions, sounds great to me!

Hope you are doing OK, Neil, I've been thinking about you a lot lately. Stay strong.

Drakonis

Oh so tasty...
Hi Neil. Great to hear you're almost back in the saddle again. You have taken JD's excellent song to a new level. Your additions are oh so tasty and they don't compete with Jame's vocal, they support it wonderfully. Fine work. Take care, Peter.

James deserves all the kudos here
Terrific song James - making additions was so easy (well, except figuring out what to do for a lead instrument) with such terrific basic tracks and such a good song to start out with.
Thanks for all the nice comments, but James deserves all the credit here.
Cheers from Oz,
Neil

Great work by all involved. Everything in its place and everything works.

A bit of early Steve Miller I think.

Pretty Little Senorita
Sounds like a combo of Jimmy Buffet and Uncle Kracker. Strong vocals and upbeat melody evoke the light romantic mood perfectly. The bass, drums and slide nicely flesh out an already solid song.

Thanks again everyone!
And to Neil! Funny I wrote this song a while back and shelved it, didn't really know if people would like it and kinda forgot it and that day I recorded it,.... that was what I just mindlessly started playing when I picked up my guitar, so I hit record,... and once I heard it back, I really liked it, funny too on other songs I love,... after I record them I realize they're not so good, interesting... anyway, thanks again Neil for adding such great additions and to everyone for their kind support! James

Nice collab
Nice collab. The additions are as if they were part of the original arrangement. Love the way people hear find a way to help each other fill out their canvases of sounds, the building of the musical quilt. What a place...
