This started as a taiko drum piece that I did and sent to Bryn. He sent me back recordings of him making coffee, and playing his Kalimba; and also sent some manipulated files of Karen Magnatone playing piano. I threw on a synth and a prepared piano, mixed it quickly and called it a day. APOD really wants to do a soundtrack and this is one kind of thing I like of as far as soundtracks go.
Sadly the tsunami in Japan happened simultaneously and Bryn and I were talking about how it was just another day, people making food, hanging out with their families, etc.. and then the tragedy happened.
I was struck by the video's I watched: while all of the destruction was happening, if you looked at the background you saw the mountains standing there quiet and unknowing. For some reason that really struck me.
Anyways, this is a little slice of life cinematic soundtrack style piece of music. Hope you like. I am thrilled that I finally get to have Magnatone on something.

the percussion, how it seems to dominate the landscape, and then falls away and let other, less assertive noises through. Very well measured.
