Description
Mac Jams has a wide variety of music and musicians, and I don’t know how many times someone here has inspired me to pull down a song I wrote years before, as it falls right into their field of expertise. Lilmom and Awigze, with their collabs, are the latest. I wrote Prize Winning Rose about twenty years ago, and was pretty sure I’d stolen it, since it went together so naturally. Hearing Sylvia’s music, I thought it would be fun posting a Norman Rockwelian tune. I asked her to play along, and was thrilled to get her track. She’s a natural. (She hummed out her musical strategy while painting her kitchen.)
Andy must have traveled back in time to catch the spirit of this song. He nailed it, in my opinion. I think I built this song around an imaginary saxophone twenty years ago. Today, it finally got one. He and Sylvia are the perfect team, and I knew they would sprinkle my little song with good things. It was a joy collaborating with them.
Prize Winning Band is:
Terry Pearson on Vocal, 6 & 12 string guitars, 4 string acoustic bass, 4 string ukulele
Sylvia Donaghue on piano and percussion
Andy Wigzell on harmony vocal, tenor and alto sax
We hope you enjoy our song, and if anyone knows where I stole this, tell me, (not that I’ll give it back, but so I’ll know who to avoid.) Terry

Lyrics
Prize Winning Rose
My lady’s in the back yard hummin’
Flowers bloomin’, the water’s runnin’
A prize winning rose, and everyone knows she’s my gal
She wears an apron ‘round her middle
A beautiful smile, voice like a fiddle
The radio’s on. She’s hummin’ along right in time
She can make the weeping willow grin
The air smells sweet everywhere she’s been
It’s hard to believe this girl is mine
Love seems to grow in her sunshine
The morning paper’s waitin’ there for me
There’s no bad news in the front page story
As long as she’s mine, this world’s doin’ fine by me And while she’s out there in the flowers
Seconds pass. They feel like hours
We’ll walk into town, and everyone ‘round will turn green
Chrysanthemums are mum no more
I hear the dandelions roar
It’s hard to believe this girl is mine
Love seems to grow in her sunshine
My lady’s on the front porch swingin’
A cold lemonade. The school bell’s ringin’
Children rush by. She lets out a sigh, “How they’ve grown!”
I walk out and sit down by her
She says she’s silly, and one quick crier
But don’t change a thing. Keep on wearin’ my ring. You’re my gal
She’s the sweetest bloom in the flowerbed
The bees are dancin’ around her head
I still can’t believe the girl is mine
Love seems to grow in her sunshine
My lady’s in the back yard hummin’
Flowers bloomin’, the water’s runnin’
A prize winning rose, and everyone knows she’s my gal
She wears an apron ‘round her middle

Outstanding! Great song! I love the melody and your 2 part harmonies. Love the ukulele! And the contributions from Sylvia and Andy are perfect! A+ for all three of you!
