Description
My first submission was on the heavier side so I thought this would be a nice way to show another side of my style. This was the first song recorded on my own on my imac w/GB back in November '10. I wrote this back in college for my band "Zero" which was my first "real" band. It never had a decent recording and I wanted to do it justice. My buddy Bert Hoopes wrote the lyrics which my cousin Shelby Chavez performed in this new version. I recorded/performed/arranged everything else. All comments/constructive criticism is very welcome (I'm always trying to improve). Thanks for the listen!!

Lyrics
V1
Don’t tell me why
Cause I don’t want to hear
Don’t make a grown girl cry
With your softly spoken reasons dear
Don’t tell me why
You’re ready so...
Just turn and go
Just turn and go...
V2
You’ve survived misfortune
Take time to clear your thoughts
You finally gave it all you had
And found the answers you had sought
Don’t tell me what’s right for you is right for me its obvious...
I don’t believe
So if you even want to try
Don’t tell me why
Chorus
All I want
All I need
Is all you’ve got can’t you see that
Unless you want to make
A grown girl cry
Don’t tell me why....
Don’t tell me why
Cause I don’t want to hear
Don’t make a grown girl cry
With your softly spoken reasons dear
Don’t tell me why
You’re ready so...
Just turn and go
Just turn and go...
V2

The modulation at 1:20 is most unexpected . . . what a cool surprise! I don't know if you ever listened to Kyuss, but the beginning, right before the modulation, reminds me a lot of Kyuss for some reason. It's thick and soupy, in a really good way. The time signature and tempo changes completely alter the mood of the song, which suits the subject matter of the song just fine, I think.
Beautiful vocals, but I think they should "soar" above the instrumentation just a little more. Maybe they just need to be pulled forward a bit. I'm not a production expert by any stretch of the imagination, though, so I'm not sure how to remedy this.
That's my only suggestion. Good work. :)
