Ah, the universality of losing at love...
One day I was driving into work and was thinking about some of the past relationships that I have had. Some seemed to end abruptly as if the script suddenly ended. Others sputtered along until she was just tired of the thought of me... whatever. So I began to think about what it could have been that made some of these relationships fail and how some women just felt all put out by the relationship. And then I blurted out, 'I wasn's askin' for money or nothin like that' I complained in the privacy of my truck. So as I walked to my office from the parking lot the words began to flow and a melody started formulating. So I pulled out my iPhone app, Chordbot and banged out a 6 chord progression DEDCDE and laid it on a bed of 8 repeating measures. There I became stuck and sent it over to Jack (DavisAmerica) to send some suggestions as to how to write the bridge and maybe the chorus. He sent me 4 measures and that was all I needed to get unstuck.
This is actually where the organ melody came from
Since my last collaboration with Chris and Sheila I had been wanting Chris and I to work on a song that he could showcase some of his leads and so I sent it on to him. What I got back was some sweet leads all right but other elements that I had never considered. Acoustic and steel guitar. He also wrote the bass line and the drum parts. I floated this over to Freddy (Loob) for some of his input and got some valuable feedback which I took and passed it on the Terry (DavisAmerica2) He added some vocal harmonies at the guitar solo section and the song was complete. Many thanks to Karen (Magnatone) for her encouragement and demands for updates on the project. You know how she is. : )

Lyrics
I wasn’t askin for money
I wasn’t asking for much.
I’s just askin' you to love me.
I wasn’t askin' for lunch.
I wasn’t askin for money
Or nothin' like that.
I's just thinkin’ you’re my honey
I didn’t ask you to put out the cat.
You can say that you love me.
You can say that you hate me.
But don’t say you don’t know me.
Your indifference – it cuts like a knife.
It cuts like a knife… it cuts like a knife.
I ain’t one of your boys
That lives on a shelf.
I aint one of your toys
And I aint doing this for my health.
Just tryin to be happy.
Not trying to be bad.
Not tryin' to be your daddy -
Just tired of feelin’ so sad.
Repeat verse 3
Guitar Solo
La La La
You can say that you love me.
You can say that you hate me.
But don’t say you don’t know me.
Your indifference – it cuts like a knife.
It cuts like a knife… it cuts like a knife
Ya…. You know what I am sayin?
Well what can I tell ya?
After you’ve done what you pleased.
This olive branch that I’am holdin’
It just didn’t grow on a tree.
Well ya know I would have loved ya
For the rest of your life
But when I finally stop bleedin
I wont turn back to pick up the knife.
I ain't asking for money
I wasn’t asking for much.
I’s just askin' you to love me.
I wasn’t askin' for lunch.
